  • Aquilo Releases New Double Album “You Should Get Some Sleep” & “A Quiet Invitation To A Hard Conversation”

  • British musical duo Aquilo, consisting of Ben Fletcher (vocals/guitar/keyboard) and Tom Higham (vocals/guitar/keyboard), released a new album “You Should Get Some Sleep” on December 6, 2024 via AWAL Recordings.

The album is the second part of their double album, following “A Quiet Invitation To A Hard Conversation” released in August 2024.
Both albums comprise 8 songs each, with a total of 16 songs. Produced by Aquilo, Eg White, Eliot James, Gabe Wax, Jon Class, Jon Green, and Sacha Skarbek.
The double album is their first project in three years since the 2021 album “A Safe Place To Be”.

The duo said of “You Should Get Some Sleep”, “This album is the sister to ‘A Quiet Invitation To A Hard Conversation’. Together they make our favourite work yet. A while back someone told us that albums are dead and no one listens to them anymore. We left laughing about it and both agreed we’d go and make two.”
  • The continued, “There are 1,000,001 things we’d like to say about this album and it’s hard to know where to start . These songs represent the world we’ve both been living in for the last 10 years. Words people have said to us, things we wish we’d been told when we were younger and maybe even some harsh truths we’ve learnt along the way. It’s our second album this year and it marks the final chapter of our double album. We spent about 1,000,001 hours in the studio with our brother Eliot James and countless others who inspired us along the way.”

  • They added, “The last three years have been some of the most transformative of our lives. It's difficult to articulate just how much this album means to us and how the stories of those closest to us have impacted it. We wanted to make something honest, and it felt like some living had to be done to get there.”

The duo explained about some tracks for the albums.

    “Feel Alive”
“This is for anyone that felt lost in their 20’s or even currently feels that way. in all honesty we both really struggled in our early 20’s. we were living life and just kind of wondering what our purpose was, if we were on the right track and what the right track would even be. we look back on it and wish someone had told us we’d be okay and that we’d make it to 30 with smiles on our faces.”

    “I'm Turning 30”
“I’m turning 30, ain’t that sad, typical you wanna feel what you had. Happy birthday Tom you beautiful thing. life is wild and we’ve been writing songs about our silly little lives since we were 15, now we’re writing songs about turning 30.”

    “Painkiller”
“We wrote it many years ago with Holly Humberstone. We’d go back to it every now and then, giving it a 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th version (like we do) and started to wonder if we’d ever release it. So it feels a little odd having it out in the real world.”

    “Want You To Want It”
“Having it out in the real world feels CRAZY after we’d been living with it for so long. it pretty much soundtracked the process of working on the new album and became a little bit of a building block for us and everything that came after.
There are many thank yous in order as it flew between London and Nashville a few times on its musical journey.
We wrote it with our buddies Jonathan Class and the lyrical genius John Joseph Brill in Nashville. it happened in a couple of hours and we knew we had something special to us. We later brought it back to London and it received some beautiful string arrangement from the Eliot James.”

    “Moon River”
“We’d like to introduce you to Moon River. We didn’t make this song a single on the album but it’s hand on heart one of our favourite pieces ever. And NO, it’s not a cover... we just reference the beautiful one you already know.”

    “Keep Moving”
“These songs (Painkiller & Keep Moving) mean so much to us in so many ways and we hope they do a little something for you. And of course Jon Green / our life long musical partner, your magic is sprinkled all over Keep Moving. Last but certainly not least, Eliot James for joining us on this musical journey that we’re about to start.”

“Even If The World Don't Understand You”
“This song means the absolute to the both of us. It sound tracked our lives for the past year, so to finally let this one go feels weird (but in a good way?) We wrote it for a friend as some kind of warm hug, so please enjoy.
The song wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for one of our oldest collaborators and good friends Jon Green. Jon is one of the most incredible musicians we’ve ever worked with and really is like a big child. (We wrote Silhouette and many others with Jon!) We were in Nashville at his place when he showed us some chords he called ‘the waterfall’. A few hours later we were deep into writing EITWDUY. (A few hours after that he made us the strongest, most lethal martini’s one would ever wish to have) For once we managed to film a few moments of us actually creating something on a beautiful day in Nashville.”
