The Chainsmokers Releases New Remix of Lola Young's “Messy”
American DJ duo The Chainsmokers, consisting of Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, released a new remix of British singer-songwriter Lola Young's “Messy” on December 21, 2024.
In addition to “Messy”, the duo has released 5 remixes via SoundCloud this month, the likes of Gigi Perez's “Sailor Song”, Justice & Tame Impala's “Neverender”, The Dare's “Girls”, Central Cee & Lil Baby's “BAND4BAND”, and Benson Boone's “Beautiful Things”.
The original version of the song was released by Lola Young as the sixth single from her sophomore album “This Wasn't Meant for You Anyway” in May 2024.
The song went viral on TikTok and became her first charting song, which reached No. 7 on the UK Singles chart.
The track was written by Lola Young and Conor Dickinson. The remix was produced by The Chainsmokers.- Lola Young said of the song, “It's a realization of I feel like a lot of relationships whether it's actually not being even just romantic relationships I've been in. This song is one of the most honest songs ive ever written, its about not being able to make someone you love happy, when you're just being you, which actually sucks. How the hell can being yourself actually be so uncomfortable sometimes?”
She continued, “I actually loved writing this and I fully poured my heart into making this song too. Shout out to everyone that was involved in helping turn this song that I wrote in my bedroom into a proper raw but beautiful sounding record. I hope you can cry to this one, or maybe try putting it on and cleaning that bloody room of yours.” -
The Chainsmokers said of their remixes, “www.soundcloud.com/thechainsmokers - what does this link mean to you? Let me set the stage for this post. The year is 2012, Drew and I just met and the only thing we know for sure is that we really like each other but we really love electronic music. We started together working together in NYC as most you know, initially making derivative dance music that sounded like the people we idolized, but quickly realized this was no way to build The Chainsmokers into the band we wanted to become.
We needed practice producing, time to figure out our sound and we really needed to build a community of fans, but really had no idea how… that was until one day while sitting in my apartment, Drew mentioned we should remix this song by Jonsi called, Around us, that he loved. It had this beautiful vocal and ethereal pieces of production but there wasn’t much else, but just the right amount of nothing to not need an acapella and stems. We spent the day messing with it and in the end really loved how it was this perfect blend of things we grew up on, it had this authentic indie song core with the energy of dance and we were so obsessed... Looking back, we had no idea that this moment would set off a reaction that would unlock so many things for us as artists.
For the day ones, you know in the early days it was all about the remix for us. We would spend days fishing through Hypemachine and Soundcloud for artists to remix seeking out beautiful songs that we felt we could elevate in super interesting ways in the electronic world. It was some of the most fun we ever had making music... That said, about 40 remixes later we decided that was enough of the remixes and it was time to focus on original music, we needed to focus and go all in... Boy are we glad we did focus on original music as DLMD just passed 2 Billion streams (THANK YOU ALL) but deep down we always missed that connection and community we created through our remixes
Well,11 years later its time to get back into it. Its not going to be exactly the same but we missed making remixes a lot… The Chainsmokers soundcloud is back baby, and its about time...” - source : SoundCloud
