  • Self Deception Releases New Album “Destroy The Art”

  • Stockholm-based rock band Self Deception, consisting of Andreas Clark (vocals), Erik Eklund (drums), Ronny Westphal (guitar) and Patrik 'Hagge' Hallgren (bass), released their seventh studio album “Destroy The Art” on October 25, 2024.

The album comprises 10 songs, featuring a guest appearance from Swedish metalcore band Dead by April's Christopher Kristensen, produced by Nicklas Eklund, Nicklas Eklund and Self Deception.
The band describes the album as four-dimensional and a return to their roots in terms of lyrical “storytelling”.

The band bassist Patrik Hallgren told Rockbladet about the album, “It's a high tempo that applies to us and we write and release songs as the spirit strikes us. We rarely plan in advance, but now with 'Destroy the Art' we had decided that it would be a record, even if it all started with a single release. We have released singles and chosen to package them into an album, along with some other goodies.”
  • The band frontman Andreas Clark continued, “We are not a band that sounds the same through and through, but all eleven songs are unique in their own way, even if they can hold together in a cluster. We have challenged ourselves by taking inspiration from different worlds and I think that will be more exciting for the listeners.”

Patrik Hallgren added, “Everything also sounds different depending on when you wrote something and then we have a tendency to change things at the last moment. You have to fight for your ideas and we never do anything if we don't like it ourselves.”

  • The band explained about some tracks for the album.

    “Dead Water”
“We wrote 'Dead Water' as a way to express the pain and frustration that comes with losing connection in a relationship. It’s something we’ve seen a lot around us and even experienced ourselves. This song made us nostalgic for simpler times when love and happiness were more effortless. It brought us back to why we started making music in the first place.”

    “Matthew McConaughey”
”I guess Harpo’s ‘Moviestar’ and Nickelback’s ‘Rockstar’ kind of serve a little as inspiration. It all lead us to a song crafted from the laughter-filled world of movie references. And let’s be real, who doesn’t aspire to be a bit like ‘Matthew McConaughey’? We sure do!”

    “Hysteria”
“During a tour at a hotel breakfast, we saw a couple loading up a massive breakfast. They took tons of pictures, making it look like they were about to feast like kings. Then only nibble on half-an-egg and left. That’s when the idea for the song was born.”

    “Beautiful Disaster”
“'Beautiful Disaster' is a homage to Sagan’s timeless wisdom, reminding us of our place in the vast universe. It’s a testament to the struggles we face as mere specks in the grand scheme of things, yet finding solace and beauty amidst the chaos.”
