St. Lucia Releases New Song “Campari Lips & Soda” with Aly & AJ
New York-based synth-pop duo St. Lucia, consisting of Jean-Philip Grobler (vocals/guitar) and Patti Beranek (keyboards), joined forces with American pop rock duo Aly & AJ to release a new song “Campari Lips & Soda” on December 27, 2024.
The song is the fourth single off of their upcoming fifth studio album “Fata Morgana: Dawn”, which is set to be released on March 14, 2025 via Nettwerk.
The new album is their first body of work in three years since the 2022 album “Utopia” and comprises 11 songs.
The track was written and produced by Jean-Philip Grobler, Aly Michalka and AJ Michalka.
The accompanying music video was directed by Xander Ferreira and Jean-Philip Grobler, who filmed in South Africa.
Jean-Philip Grobler said of the song, “The 4th single from our upcoming new album ‘Fata Morgana: Dawn’ comes out, and it’s called ‘Campari Lips & Soda’. It features the lovely Aly & AJ who have become very good friends of ours since we met in late 2019. The song was written by Aly Michalka, AJ Michalka & I (Jean) during our first 3 day writing session together in December 2019 at our last Brooklyn studio in Bushwick.”- He continued, “If I'm correct (correct me if I'm wrong ladies) at the time Aly & AJ were developing what would become their beautiful album 'a touch of the beat...' but hadn't quite nailed down the aesthetic and so we were mainly just kinda exploring ideas and directions during the session. On the final day, we decided to just have some fun with no pressure and I think it was Aly that told me that she had this idea of writing a song called Campari Lips & Soda, and we immediately got a flash of inspiration and started working on the song. It all just flowed so easily and we had so much fun doing it and it felt like we were existing in our own little weird sci-fi island of somewhere like Palm Springs in the 1950's in the midst of Winter in Bushwick.”

He added, “A few years would pass but as our new record developed it became clearer and clearer that the song worked better in the world of what we were doing than the world of what Aly & AJ were doing, so they kindly let us use the song. Unfortunately the girls couldn't fly to South Africa to be part of the video shoot and so the lovely Kayla Critchfield and Mackenzie Hunter Wood agreed to stand in and Michelle Meyer helped us put it all together and take photos. Once again, the visuals all come from the world that Xander Ferreira helped us creative direct and film.”
