  • Suki Summer Releases New Song “Marianne”

  • British indie pop-rock singer-songwriter Suki Summer released her brand new single called “Marianne” on December 4, 2024.

The song is the follow-up to “Nothing At All”, which was released back in October.
The track is an intimate exploration of vulnerability and fleeting connections, drawing on inspiration from Suki's travels through Europe during the summer. Reflecting on a brief romance the song captures the exhilaration of a passionate but impermanent relationship.
She recorded the song at The Premises Studios in London, as with the previous song.
The track was written by Basil Jet and Elsie Genevieve Brade.

Suki Summer said of the song, “This song explores my relationship with intimacy and vulnerability. I wanted this song to encapsulate the time we spent together which was beautiful and fun but also tainted with a sadness of knowing that when the summer ended so would our time together. The name of the song and subsequently the hook of the chorus 'Marianne' I credit to him. He noted my likeness to Marianne from one of his favourite books 'Normal People' by Sally Rooney and also pointed out my resemblance to the actress Daisy Edgar Jones who plays Marianne in the tv adaptation. I think it felt so perfect and so sad that our shared love of this book and story, in many ways, also mirrored our reality.”
  • She continued, “Recording this song was cathartic. My recording engineer Neil helped bring out the vulnerability in my performance. The layered harmonies and the music by Basil encapsulate the romanticisation of a brief summer encounter; both capturing the feeling of a fun summer romance and the sadness of its end.”

  • She added, “Despite our ending not being the happiest I am really grateful that we were able to share that chapter of time together. This song allowed me to explore my own vulnerability which I owe to this person. Sometimes you meet someone and it's like being able to finally hold onto the side of the pool after treading water for so long...”
