  • South Arcade Releases Debut EP “2005”

  • British pop rock band South Arcade, consisting of Harry Winks (guitar), Cody Leigh Johns (drums), Ollie Green (bass) and Harmony Cavelle (vocals), released their debut EP “2005” on December 13, 2024 via BKM Artists and LAB Records.

The EP comprises 6 songs, written by Cody Leigh, Harmony Scott-Russell, Harry Winks, and Ollie Green, produced by Harry Winks.

The band said of the EP, “It's really exciting for us to now have a real body of work out into the world that captures the universe we are trying to create with South Arcade. This last year has been a whirlwind and seeing how many people have been resonating with our music has been incredible. We wanted to have the whole EP wrapped up with '2005' before we head into 2025, and to give our fans a taste of what's to come!”
  • The band lead singer Harmony Cavelle told Kerrang! about the EP, “It's been such a fun EP to make, and there's different vibes in each song - they all create a different world. And now it's so nice to have them all together, and for people to have that as a thing to listen through and know that it's how we want it to be presented. It means a lot to us, and it's really exciting.”

Guitarist Harry Winks added, “We're doing something different with each song. People know that we coined the 'Y2K core'. Each song pulls from a different favourite genre of ours from the 2000s - whether it's nu-metal or pop-punk.”

  • The band explained track-by-track for the EP.

    “2005”
“It's a well known fact that we love the 2000s and are heavily inspired by the music and culture of that time. We wanted to have a song that captured that idea of bittersweet nostalgia but in a fun way, and that sounds like it's transporting you back to that era whilst comparing it to the chaos of how life can feel now. We hope the track can give other people the nostalgic escapism that it does for us.”

    “MOTH KIDS”
“MOTH KIDS is a track that came to life when we first started the band which we couldn't get right at the time. The song was inspired after playing our first small tour for our fans and feeling a sense of community at the shows with everyone in the crowd. After our recent run of shows, we had this same feeling and wanted to capture it in this song. We've also secretly shared the song with our fans for a while and they have been asking for it to be released ever since. It's more of an angsty, rebellious kind of track which we hope brings a sense of belonging like it did for us making it.”

“HOW 2 GET AWAY WITH MURDER”
“'HOW 2 GET AWAY WITH MURDER' quickly came to life after I binge-watched the 2000's series Dexter – a show surrounding a vigilante serial killer who punishes those who he believes deserve it. The song drew inspiration from the extreme gruesome nature of the show. We had a lot of fun writing the song and hope listeners have fun listening when they hear it too!”

    “stone cold summer”
“Harry showed us a demo with this crazy riff and we thought it was amazing! We'd been struggling with social media for a while but we always write music and put all our energy into the band because it's what we love. As we were writing 'stone cold summer' about keeping optimistic with the band, our videos blew up on TikTok and it felt like an omen. We hope the song helps other people to keep the faith in doing what they love.”

    “Riptide”
“Riptide is a song we started a while ago but struggled with knowing where to take it. We came back to it having just seen a friend who was struggling and all the pieces just seemed to fit into place. It's confusing and uncertain when not knowing how to help someone you really care about. But no matter what, leaving is not an option and that whenever they need you, you'll be there for them. We loved playing it for our fans on our last tour and they seemed to relate to it as much as we did, so it seemed only right for us to release it.”

    “Nepo Baby”
“This song is a reply to all the negative comments that we have been receiving. We wanted to do something fun and jokey.

It's the first time when we really started to feel like we'd found our sound. It was like, 'Okay, this is our lane and we feel strong here.' We know what we want to create. It's how we want it to be presented. It means a lot to us, and it's really exciting.”
