Florrie Drops New Music Video for “If It's Been A Hard Night” from Debut Album “The Lost Ones”
London-based pop singer-songwriter Florrie dropped a new music video for “If It's Been A Hard Night” on December 13, 2024.
The song is featured on her highly-anticipated debut album “The Lost Ones”, which was released back in June.
The track was written by Ben Taylor, Brian Higgins, Florrie Arnold, Grace Medford, Morgan Mackintosh, and Toby Scott. Produced by Florrie, Brian Higgins, and Ben Taylor.
The debut album comprises 12 songs, produced by Florrie, Ben Taylor, and Brian Higgins.
The album had been in the making for five years.
Florrie said of the album, “I like that it's the lost songs for people who have been following me for a while, but it is also about this period of feeling completely lost and me finding my way back to who I am.”- She continued, “Production-wise there is a lot going on, there are so many layers, and every single note has its own story to tell. There is nothing there that shouldn't be there, and we wanted to do justice to the songs and take the records as far as we could. I spent a week in a studio out in LA recording live drums on the record. I've played on a lot of other peoples records but it felt really amazing to be playing on my own album, in a kind of 'taking it back to where it all started' way.”
- She shared on social media, “I have so much I want to share about making this record, about the journey I've been on to get here and the people who've helped along the way...for now I'll just say...WE DID IT. Thank you to all of you for being my biggest champions. You have been here lifting me up and pushing me forward through all the highs and lows. I have made this album for you, and I hope it brings you some joy and positivity (and maybe you have a little therapeutic cry to Jealous and Honeymoons Over). It is my greatest pleasure writing songs, sharing my stories, and making music for you...and although it's been 84 YEARS in the making, in many ways it feels like day 1 all over again. I'm excited for what's next…and you have given me that.”
Florrie explained about some tracks for the album.
“The Lost Ones”
“I wrote 'The Lost Ones' when I was coming out of a pretty tough time. My label had dropped me, I was with a guy who was asking me to become a housewife. My confidence was really, really low but, slowly, I started to build back that confidence. That's when I wrote this song and to me, it's about accepting your flaws, being at peace with all the mistakes that you've made. There are always going to be better days ahead. It's also uplifting and that is something that I want you to feel with my music. You can take something positive from it.”
“Never Far From Paradise”
“I wrote 'Never Far From Paradise' looking back on a difficult period of time in my life, in a way giving advice to the person I was then, reminding them that even in what feel like the darkest times, there's always a light around the corner. I wanted to capture a feeling of optimism and euphoria in the production, to counteract the more poignant lyrics, and I hope that's what people take away from the track when they listen. It's my favourite track to play live, there's something really powerful about singing and drumming this one together! I always imagined running to and from something when I was writing this song. Running from the past, from the things or people that hold you back, from the secrets that you tell no-one, and running back to yourself, to a place where you can feel some peace, to somewhere where nobody can find you.”
“Kissing In the Cold”
“This is one of my favourite songs I've ever written. I had this idea of finger 'drumming' riffs on the Juno (synth) and Brian, my co-producer, burst into the room and said, 'THATS IT WHAT WAS THAT!!?' Luckily I was recording because I couldn't play it again (it happens a lot), this is the rhythmical bouncy riff you hear throughout the chorus, then we added other parts around it and created a synth wonderland. Every melody, riff, and part of this song was given so much love and attention and to me it is a perfect mix of nostalgia and the feeling of looking back and wondering what could've been…something I think we can all relate to in some way. It's full of longing and hopefulness at the same time, and I hope you love it as much as I do.”
“Personal”
“I recorded the drums in LA over the summer and they were one of the last bits we added to the record. It started out in life as more of a ballad, and I wrote it over a sad eighties synth riff (RIP sad eighties synth riff era) but we spent a lot of time on the production and I love the massive drums (naturally) they just fit perfectly with the lyrics…defiant. The production was worked on all over the place, a lot of the time in the studio and sometimes on zoom (always secretly filming). It was mixed by someone I'd wanted to work with for ages, Manon Grandjean, and in true moi style, it went through about a million different versions. But I hope you'll be able to hear the love and time that has gone into it…this song is the end of an era, and the start of a new one where the music is going to keep coming, so I hope you're ready.”
“Honeymoon's Over”
“Made you guys a little video for Honeymoons Over. I met this lovely lady called Babette, who lives in Streatham and rents out her piano for people in the neighbourhood to play. She is 90 years old and SO lovely…so this is her piano and her home, and I feel very grateful I got to play this song there.”
“Looking for Love”
“The vocal you hear in the chorus is actually the original. I couldn't beat it. I tried 100 times, I remember recording it and Brian has a very intense look about him and he just kept pushing me, to the point where I was almost angry that I wasn't nailing it. I wanted to beat it for this new version, but nothing matched up to it.”
“Jealous”
“This is one of my favourite songs on my album, I wrote it about a time in my life when I wasn't ready to move on…even though I knew we could never make it work, and I wanted them to be happy. It's quite a difficult feeling to put into words, but I tried my best with this song, and I hope you can hear that.” - source : Apple Music
