Olly Alexander Releases New Song “Archangel”
London-based singer-songwriter Olly Alexander, formerly Years & Years, released a new song “Archangel” on December 13, 2024.
The song is the third single off of his his debut solo album “Polari”, following “Polari” and “Cupid's Bow”.
It was written by Olly Alexander, and Danny L Harle who also produced the track as with the previous song.
“This is a song about how an angel saved me at my darkest moment, I don’t mean a mythical angel (or do I?) but rather someone in my life who picked me up when I was down,” Olly Alexander said of the song. “I’m really grateful to him, and to all the other angels (divine and non divine) who I’ve encountered along the way. I loved making this song with my musical partner Danny L Harle, our goal was to create something that sounded eternally optimistic, redemptive and like anything is possible.
He added, “This is such a special song for me and I’m really happy to be putting it out and to show another side to Polari.”- The new album is set to be released on February 7, 2025 via Polydor Records. It is his first project under his own name, Olly Alexander.
The album comprises 13 songs, produced by Produced by Danny L Harle and Finn Keane.
Album title “Polari” means a coded slang. Originating around Europe and the Romani community as early as the 1600s, Polari became a secret language for homosexuals and other marginalized groups during the twentieth century.
Olly Alexander told NME about the album, “I was very inspired making ‘Polari’ by a lot of music from the ‘80s like Erasure, The Pet Shop Boys, Kate Bush. I’m hoping that the music from ‘Polari’ sits in that world.” - source : Apple Music
