Griff Performs “Pure Imagination” & “last night's mascara” on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
British singer-songwriter Griff appeared on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory classic “Pure Imagination” and her latest song “last night's mascara”.
Griff said, “I've grown up watching Live Lounge, so this is a bit of a surreal moment. I love it. I feel like this was, like a big achievement, like a personal achievement for me. Like, come to the end of the year, I've done my first ever launch with Live Lounge. I feel very excited.”
Back in October, she recorded the song for Target's 2024 “Happier Holidays From Target” holiday campaign.
She said, “I feel like it's such a nostalgic song. And I actually recorded a version of this for like, a TV Christmas advert, so it feels right to do it in Live Lounge.”- “last night's mascara” was released on November 8, 2024. She wrote the song for her debut album “Vertigo”, but song was not included on the album.
She posted the demo version of the song to TikTok, where the song went viral. With reception of fans, she finally released it.
The track was written and produced by Griff, with production by Sam Tsang.
Griff said of the song, “So cool seeing the internet ask for a demo I never finished enough to make the album. The love on this song has been so unexpected. This was a forgotten beat I'd made last year. It's been sitting on my laptop, and I'm so grateful you guys wanted it enough to give it a new life.
