Simple Minds Releases New Song “Your Name In Lights” from Documentary “Everything Is Possible” Soundtrack
British rock band Simple Minds, consisting of Jim Kerr (vocals), Charlie Burchill (guitar), Ged Grimes (bass), Cherisse Osei (drums), Sarah Brown (backing vocals) and Gordy Goudie (keyboards), released a new song “Your Name In Lights” from their career-spanning documentary “Everything Is Possible” soundtrack on December 10, 2024.
The documentary was released in December 2023 and is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and the BBC Scotland channel from December 10, 2024.
The track was written by Charlie Burchill and Jim KerrPaul Statham. Produced by Paul Statham.
The band sets out to match the film's ambience whilst recapturing the innocent spirit of their early days.
The band frontman Jim Kerr said, “When we were 'wee boys' playing around with our synthesisers, proudly wearing our Kraftwerk and Brian Eno influences on our sleeve.”
The track mirrors a style that Simple Minds previously produced on the 1979 album “Reel To Real Cacophony”, with an accompanying lyric which, as Jim Kerr puts it, “conjures up a 'Dreamer's conversation with a distant Muse' – that Muse being Aretha Franklin as sung by Sarah Brown.”- The film “Everything Is Possible” was directed by Joss Crowley, featuring candid interviews with band members, as well as a cast of outstanding musicians, writers, actors and broadcasters: Primal Scream's Bobby Gillespie, Depeche Mode's Dave Gahan, Texas' Sharleen Spiteri, Live Aid organiser Bob Geldof, The Specials and 2-Tone founder Jerry Dammers, Irvine Welsh, Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club), broadcasters Murial Gray and Mariella Frostrup, and album producers John Leckie, Peter Walsh, Trevor Horn and Jimmy Iovine.
The film's overarching theme is the lifelong friendship at the core of the group, that of Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill. -
