  • MØ Covers Avicii's “Wake Me Up”

  • Danish singer-songwriter released a cover of the late Swedish DJ Avicii's “Wake Me Up” on December 6, 2024.

The single is the follow-up to “Who Said”, which was released last month as her first comeback song in two years.
The original version of the song was released by Avicii as the lead single featuring American soul singer Aloe Blacc from his debut album “True” in 2013.
The song reached No. 4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the UK Singles chart.
The single has sold over 11,100,000 copies.
The track was written by Avicii, Annie actress Aileen Quinn, Melinda Marie Marantz, American country music singer Miranda Lambert, Mike Einziger, and Aloe Blacc. The cover version was produced by Nick Sylvester.
Avicii died on April 20, 2018 in Muscat, Oman, at the age of 28.
MØ co-wrote "Dear Boy", which was featured on “True” and performed it as vocals.
  • MØ said of Avicii, “Avicii’s music and life story has touched me deeply over the years. In 2012 in New York City at a weird rooftop party and to the tones of ‘Levels’, something about the unapologetic, almost aggressive energy mixed with a haunting emotional depth made me make up my mind to follow my dreams of becoming an artist, whatever the cost.”

She continued, “I was working with some of his friends out of his house in LA, in the days leading up to his passing. I remember having felt so honoured to be working out of this Scandinavian legend’s studio. He changed music, and he changed me. Forever I will be remembered, enchanted and inspired by angel Avicii.”

  • MØ shared on social media, “Do you remember the Dear Boy Avicii song I did back in 2013? This winter I've been thinking about the forever missed legendary angel.”

She continued, “This one is a really special one to me. Big thanks to Nick Sylvester for making this track with me, and thanks to Lars Stalfors for mixing and Nomograph Mastering for mastering. Thank you Avicii and Aloe Blacc for blessing us all with the original masterpiece of a song.”
