Adam Lambert Releases New Version of “I Don't Care Much” from Broadway Musical “Cabaret”
American singer-songwriter Adam Lambert has appeared on the musical “Cabaret” playing the the enigmatic Emcee at August Wilson Theatre,
It is his Broadway debut. This revival transformed Broadway's August Wilson Theatre into an immersive, in-the-round venue, with the Kit Kat Club recreating the ambiance of a 1930s cabaret, directed by Rebecca Frecknall.
From the musical, Adam Lambert released a new version of “I Don't Care Much” on December 6, 2024.
The track was written by Don Walker, Fred Ebb, John Kander, Michael Gibson. Produced by Ben Robbins.
The music video was filmed by Umbrella Room on location at the Kit Kat Club at the August Wilson Theatre (245 West 52nd Street) in New York City.
Adam Lambert said of the song, “'I Don't Care Much' is a torch song dealing with indifference that comes at a point in the show where all hope and joy has been eclipsed by the presence of Nazi forces in Berlin. We recorded this track and filmed the video just as the anxiety around the results of the 2024 U.S. election hit our community. There's catharsis in the sadness for the listener, and I hope they can feel seen and realize they're not alone in this moment in time.”- Adam Lambert told PAPER Magazine about his plying character and the song, “The character's a bit schizophrenic in a way, in these different transformations that he goes through scene to scene. It also allows me to transform vocally. There's certain songs that sound completely different, that sit in a different part of my voice than the next one. And there's a ballad, an 11 o'clock number for me called 'I Don't Care Much,' which is sort of a torch song, and that's a whole other thing. It's such a good song, isn't it? I'm loving it. I'm loving that I get to show some different sides and give the Emcee lots of dimension.”
