Allegories Covers Talk Talk's “It's My Life”
Hamilton-based electronic pop duo Allegories, consisting of Adam Bentley and Jordan Mitchell, released a cover of British new wave band Talk Talk's “It's My Life” on November 26, 2024.
The original version of the song was released by Talk Talk as the first single from their second album of the same name in 1984.
The song reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play.
American rock band No Doubt also covered the song in 2003. Their version was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal at the 47th Grammy Awards.
The track was written by Mark Hollis and Tim Friese-Greene. The cover version was produced by Adam Bentley and Jordan Mitchell.
Unfortunately, Talk Talk's Mark Hollis died from cancer in 2019, aged 64.
Adam Bentley was forced to listen to No Doubt's version of the song almost every day for five years during his time working at a hardware store.- Adam Bentley said of the song, “The urgency in Mark Hollis' vocals struck me. And by covering the song, I felt like I was taken back to a place of admiration and passion, and away from Gwen Stefani. Keep Talk Talk away from Gwen at all costs.”
Jordan Mitchell added, “I thought it might be therapeutic to learn this song. Recording the music came pretty easily after every part had been playing over and over in my head for so many months.” -
