Disclosure & Pa Salieu Premiere New Song “King Steps” on BBC Radio 1
British electronic music duo Disclosure, consisting of Guy Lawrence and Howard Lawrence, teamed up with Gambian-British rapper Pa Salieu to premiere a new song “King Steps” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
This marks the first collaboration between Disclosure and Pa Salieu.
They first performed the song at The Warehouse Project in Manchester last month.
The track was written by Ben Ash, Guy Lawrence, and Pa Salieu. Produced by Guy Lawrence.
Disclosure said of the song, “We’re excited to continue showcasing the darker, harder side of our sound with ‘King Steps,’ UK Garage has always been a core influence in our music, and it’s incredible to see its impact growing so much over the past year. Collaborating with Pa Salieu - who’s delivering some of the best music coming out of the UK right now - makes it the perfect time to release this track.”- Pa Salieu said, “I’m an Afrikan Alien, and I know that garage music isn’t a genre people might expect me to jump on — but that’s what being an alien is about, moving from planet to planet, sound to sound. I stepped into Disclosure’s world and together we created an atmosphere that blends where we’re both coming from. That is true collaboration.”

Pa Salieu told Jack Saunders about the song, “Literally, the vocals came, I think four years ago. We didn't really vocal much after it, innit, I tried changing it, but the last take was the original take, and mix was the best. So, I can excited for this since for a very long time.”
Disclosure said, “What was cool, though, is like, and people won't really probably ever hear this version. Maybe they will, but the original vocal of King Steps was over a whole different genre. So it wasn't like Pa wrote the vocal to garage. We got to send the vocal and like the passion and like the aggression and like just the delivery of the vocal to me sounded like we must try this as two step garage, like it has to be tried. And it's safe to have such a hard like UK, straight up UK garage tune, like in our catalog, finally, like we've always referenced it and drawn from that place as people know as an influence. This one is just on the nose.”
