Ed Sheeran Releases New Christmas Song “Under the Tree” from New Animated Film “That Christmas” Soundtrack
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran contributed a new song “Under the Tree” to Netflix's upcoming animated film “That Christmas” and released on November 26, 2024.
The track was written and produced by Ed Sheeran and Johnny McDaid. The accompanying music video was directed by Richard Curtis
The film is based on the charming trilogy of children's books by writer-director Richard Curtis, following a series of entwined tales about family and friends, love and loneliness, and Santa Claus making a big mistake, not to mention an enormous number of turkeys.
The film was directed by Simon Otto in his directorial debut, starring the voices of Brian Cox, Fiona Shaw, Jodie Whittaker, and Bill Nighy.
The film is scheduled to be released on Netflix on December 4, 2024.- Ed Sheeran said of the song in a statement, “Richard Curtis made my fav Christmas film, and TV special. I've been mates with Richard Curtis for years, and we've done a load of fun work for charity, and then both were heavily involved in the movie Yesterday. He came to me two years ago to play me the rough [draft] of That Christmas. It was just sketches and voices, but it blew me away. Then asked me to make a song for it. How could I resist.”
- He continued, “Having kids, I struggle to find great great movies for very young kids to watch at Christmas, and this ticks all the boxes. This song is written about a character in the film who wants to spend Christmas with his dad, but doesn't get to. It's a heartbreaking scene, and something so many people go through every year being alone at Christmas. Hope everyone loves the song.”
