Martin Garrix & Jex Team Up for New Song “Told You So”
Dutch DJ Martin Garrix teamed up with American singer-songwriter Jex to release a new song “Told You So”.
This marks the first collaboration between Martin Garrix and Jex.
They met and began worked together after Jex posted piano riff of the song to TikTok.
The track was written by Jeffrey David Burns, Jordan Miller, Martijn Garritsen, and Rob Grimaldi. Produced by Martin Garrix, Osrin, and Rob Grimaldi.
The accompanying music video was directed by Mathias Normann.
Martin Garrix said of the collaboration with Jex, “The first time I heard of Jax was actually via Tiktok. And the caption was, 'Which producer do you hear finishing this?' And so many people sent it to me. And I listened to it and I was like, if I heard so many directions the song could go. Her beautiful voice. I was in love. We were just sending voice notes back and forth. We met for the first time in Las Vegas. We just started jamming, we worked. We rewrote the verse and the pre, also at the staccatos, the strings. What do I want people to remember when they listen to this song, just to take chances follow your gut feeling, have fun, live life, and party.”- Jex said, “I was in my apartment and I had a piano riff, put some words over it, and then posted that hook on the internet. There was a great response. And then one morning, I was getting a video call, and I answered it. And it was Martin Garrix. It was just, it was incredible. I'm very grateful that he wanted to run with it.”
Martin Garrix said, “Working on this together with Jex was an absolute dream and I can't wait to share it with the world!”
Jex Jordyn added, “From writing this hook alone in my apartment, to Martin finding it and bringing it to life, this entire thing has been a dream come true. 'Told You So' is so authentic & special, and I am stoked for it to finally be out in the world.” -
Jex shared on social media, “I am still dumbfounded at the response to this hook, this little tiny snippet of a song I wrote right here in my apartment has been everything I could have dreamed up and more. Martin Garrix has been a dream collab of mine, so the fact that he found this little hook is insane to me. Still can't wrap my mind around it. I also want to acknowledge that you guys have had a lot of patience. I put this hook out in August. It's taken some time to get here, but I'm really glad that the song turned out the way that it did. It's everything that I could have hoped for and more. Thank you for being so patient as this song has come to fruition. The last little thing I'll say is I was going through quite a rough time in the beginning of this year. I was somewhere between wanting to just throw in the towel and go off grid. I also was in this place of like, No keep putting little snippets of these songs out and just keep posting and keep writing, and decided to stick it out. And had I not, we wouldn't be here. So if you're passionate about something, keep going, keep at it, keep pursuing. I know that sounds really cliche, but it's true. It might take a little time things will fall into place.
