Floodlights Announces New Album “Underneath”, Shares New Song “Cloud Away”
Australian indie rock band Floodlights, consisting of Louis Parsons (vocals/guitar), Ashlee Kehoe (guitar), Archie Shannon (drums), Joe Draffen (bass) and Sarah Hellyer (keyboards/trumpet), has announced their third studio album “Underneath” on march 21, 2025 via [PIAS] Australia.
The album is their first body of work in two years since the 2023 album “Painting of My Time” and comprises a 11-track.
From the album, the band unveiled a new song “Cloud Away” on November 20, 2024.
The song is accompanied by the Ava Clifforth-directed music video.
The track is the second single off of the album, following “Cloud Away” released last month.
It was written by Archie Shannon, Ashlee Kehoe, Joe Draffen, Louis Parsons, and Sarah Hellyer. Produced by Dan Luscombe.
The band lead singer Louis Parsons said of the song, “Just like a cloud, feelings come and go, life changes and so do people. Cloud Away is a song about hope and how even in the lowest of times, we can still find a way to navigate the winding road. It speaks to the simple beauties of life and how we use projections of the future to lift ourselves from the present.”- He continued, “We wanted to explore different techniques in this song as a way to express our individual and collective evolution. Sarah's soaring vocals, coupled with whispering, swelling synths and an arpeggiator are tools we haven't used before which resulted in something desirably different.”
He added, “We will always be true to our sound, something that can be done whilst also pushing the boundaries of our comfort. A massive shoutout to the brilliant Dan Luscombe for playing an important role in the creation of this song.” -
Louis Parsons told NME about the album, “Rather than just doing live recordings like we have in the past, we did a bit of a skeleton track and then started to lay overdubs on top of that. We wanted to try something else, we hadn’t ever really done that before. It was layering in a really intricate way, and seeing how detailed we could get with the songs.”
