070 Shake Releases New Album “Petrichor”
American singer-songwriter 070 Shake released her third studio album “Petrichor” along with a new music video for “Elephant” on November 15, 2024 via Def Jam Recordings/Universal Music Canada.
This marks her first album in two years since the 2022 album “You Can't Kill Me”.
The album is a project that melds her personal tastes, lived experiences, and limitless creativity, showcasing acoustic guitars, ornate piano passages, ominous synths, hip-hop rhythms with a dash of psychedelia, and incorporating rich orchestral arrangements.
The album comprises 13 songs, including a cover of the 1970 Tim Buckley song “Song to the Siren”.
It features collaborations and guest appearances from American singer-songwriter Courtney Love, American rapper JT, French-American actress Lily-Rose Depp and American country music singer-songwriter Cam.
The album's title is a term used to describe the smell that comes after the first rainfall on arid ground.
070 Shake said of the album title, “I just really related to that word, and that smell since I was a kid, is my favorite smell. And I just like the feeling of it, and I thought it was a beautiful name.”
She added, “Petrichor is a feeling. It's the perfect word to describe this body of music.”- 070 Shake said of the album, “It brings me to this part of myself where I feel oneness with everything that I've ever been through, every age that I've ever been.”
She continued, “I think as creatives, we all reach a point where it feels like there's a wall. And I think you just got to be strong, strong-willed, and really be willing to go at that wall over and over and over again until it just breaks. And that's where the magic is at behind that wall. I mean, this, for me, is nothing else. Like this is what my life is, you know. So if I don't do that, then what am I going to do?” -
070 Shake said of “Winter Baby / New Jersey Blues”, “Very inspired by the 50s and bringing a new flavor to it. Just listening to a lot of like classic rock and classical music in general, and also just taking inspiration from my own self, internally, with all of the music that I've ever loved that is just feels like is a part of me. Because I feel like it's like a little taste. It's almost like candy, and it feels very much like a dream state. And when you listen to the album, it feels more like the reality of me.”
The music video was filmed at “A Night at the Ballet” in Los Angeles on November 7, 2024. The show showcased 070 Shake's expansive vision of Petrichor through dance, with a Zoi Tatopoulous choreographed performance and special guest appearance from dancer Violetta Komyshan.
