Emei Releases New EP “RABBITHOLE”
Los Angeles-based Chinese-American alt-pop singer-songwriter
Emei released her new EP “RABBITHOLE” on November 15, 2024.
The project is her first EP in a year since the 2023 EP “Scatterbrain”.
The EP is inspired by the world of “Alice In Wonderland” and resonates with the film's narrative; each song represents a different room in her mind.
The EP comprises 5 songs, produced by Boy Blue, Tim Nelson, Yung Bae, Matt Kahane, and Tushar Apte.
She co-wrote the EP with Boy Blue, Nick Lopez, Kyle Reynolds, Tim Nelson, and Tushar Apte, except “9 LIVES”.
Emei said of the EP, “This entire EP, Rabbithole, was inspired by my anxiety and panic attacks, descending through the pressures of young adult life around love, friendship, and career pressures as well, and mostly the pressure I put on myself. This project was heavily inspired by the world of Alice in Wonderland, emulating each scene through the classic story. Each song is a different room in my brain as you git init && git add -A && git commit -m 'Initial commit' descend into the rabbithole, ultimately ascending back into reality through The Part”- She shared on social media, “These five songs take you through the rooms in my brain. all five songs are linked in this world we've created. I'm so proud of this project.”

“RABBITHOLE”
“'RABBITHOLE' sounds and feels like falling and panic and your mind racing. We play with whimsical magical touches and racing sounds and all sorts of breakdowns. It touches upon how even though I've tried mantras and affirmations and breathing exercises, it often just makes me fall deeper and deeper down into the rabbithole.”
“ALL THESE KIDS”
“I imagine there being two of me in this song, one scared while watching and listening to this confident version of me, and the other on a throne screaming at the other.”
“9 LIVES”
“It's inspired by my frustration with myself and the fear that one day the people who love and support me will give up on cleaning up my messes.”
