Olivia O'Brien Releases New EP “everywhere I go, there I am”
American singer-songwriter Olivia O'Brien released her new EP “everywhere I go, there I am” on November 15, 2024 via her own label girlhood records.
It is the second project of 2024, following the EP “love & limerence” released back in June.
The EP comprises a 5-track, including two pre-release songs and three new songs, produced by Day Wave and Gabe Simon.
Olivia O'Brien co-wrote all the songs, collaborating with Day Wave on four of them and with Gabe Simon on “how would i know”.
Olivia O'Brien told MELODIC Magazine about the EP, “This project is very, very special to me. It's also all about my mental health, there's not a single song that's about, like, love or relationships or anything. It's all just about me and my own struggles which I think is really special.”- She continued, “I feel really separate from a lot of things that I've made. I thought that, you know, if you make happy, upbeat things, you'll have a wider audience - which is kind of objectively true. Not everyone wants to listen to sad stuff. But I feel like I'm so much more connected with my listeners and just people in general when I release stuff like this that's really raw and from the heart.”
She Added, “I'm not saying that any of the music I made in the past was bad by any means, I just feel like it didn't represent me. It's just about being proud of what I do and feeling like it's an accurate representation of myself, my interests and what I like.” -
“lower”
“I wrote 'lower' at a particularly low (pun intended) point in my life. To avoid getting overly morbid and potentially making everyone uncomfortable, I won't go into too much detail… the bridge of the song already does that for me, I think. I am pretty incapable of censoring myself in my music, especially when I am really going through something. This song is a perfect example of that. I said everything I felt, without making it look pretty or be easily digestible, without adding any bells or whistles. Plain and simple. Just the hard truths of what it feels like to hit rock bottom… repeatedly.”
“all the time”
“I wrote 'all the time' originally as a poem about how quickly a seemingly inconsequential bad habit can turn into a harmful addiction. From drugs and alcohol to eating disorders, I can't even begin to count the number of times I have watched friends and family members tell me that they, 'don't do it all the time' or 'it's just this once.' It never is. We lie to ourselves to justify our vices because they make us feel good for a moment. People go to great lengths to hide the truth... not just from others, but from themselves. I worry all the time (no pun intended) that I, myself, will slip into these patterns if I am not careful. This song serves as a reminder.” - source : Apple Music
