R E L Releases New Song “Medicine”
Los Angeles-based evocapop singer-songwriter R E L released a new song “Medicine” on November 15, 2024.
The song is featured on a new EP of the same name, which was released on the same day.
The EP comprises 3 songs, including other two songs “Intuition” and “Canary”, and is the follow-up to the 4-track EP “R E L in the meantime” released back in April.
She co-wrote the song with producer Jon Joseph, who also produced the EP.
R E L said of the song, “'Medicine' is a story of self love and healing intimately connected to my own journey of healing and embodiment. The record is about release, softening, angst, embodiment, hope, love. Self love is the foundation of peace. So many of us, myself included, have struggled with or struggle with some form of hating self. If we hate ourselves, how can we really love another?.”- R E L explained about other songs.
“Intuition”
"We are conditioned to believe that we need validation or likes or certain status markers, or a certain amount of money or body type to be successful, to be likeable, to be valuable, when we really are all so valuable inside- underneath the facade we've built is a society aching for authenticity." -
“Canary”
“Have you ever heard the expression 'canary in a coal mine'? When the coal mining industry was booming, with conditions so dangerous for the people working in the mines, they would always have a canary with the workers because they were more sensitive to the air quality. If a canary died from toxic air, it wasn't safe for humans. That sensitivity saved many workers' lives, even though the sweet songbirds died. I often feel like a canary in the world—I've always been very sensitive, and while that can be perceived as a weakness, it's very much a strength. Those of us that feel so deeply can serve as a barometer for our communities. If you can feel it, you can heal it. So even though it hurts, it's a great power and holds a lot of potential. There's hope, through it all. And though the tendency may be to close our hearts, keeping them open is where the magic lies.” - source : Apple Music
