  • St. Vincent Releases New Single “El Mero Cero” (Spanish Version of “Big Time Nothing”)

  • American singer-songwriter St. Vincent released a new single “El Mero Cero” on November 12, 2024.

It is a Spanish-language version of “Big Time Nothing” released back in April.
The song is taken from her upcoming Spanish-language version of seventh studio album “All Born Screaming” entitled “Todos Nacen Gritando”, which is out this Friday (November 15).
The track was written by Annie Clark and Cate Le Bon. Produced by St. Vincent.
When she toured in Mexico, South America and Barcelona in 2023, she was surprised that her Spanish-speaking fans sang her songs in English.
With reaction of fans, she decided to re-record every vocal track of her latest album translated into Spanish.

St. Vincent said of the album, “The origins of Todos Nacen Gritando can be traced back to some of the most memorable shows I've ever played, in Mexico, South America and recently Primavera Barcelona in 2023. Though separated by time and geography, and across a diverse range of settings and venues, these crowds were united in their passion-singing every word to every song in perfect English. It was truly inspiring. Eventually, I asked myself: If they can sing along in a second or third language, why can't I meet them halfway? So I enlisted my best friend and occasional collaborator Alan Del Rio Ortiz to work on translating these lyrics, tweaking here and there for melodic reasons, making every effort to stay true to the song at hand without sacrificing accuracy. After much rewriting and re-singing every vocal track on the album, the result is Todos Nacen Gritando, equal parts labor of love and tribute to the people who inspired it.”
  • St. Vincent said of the song, “To me the song was just like what depression says to you. Like, this anxious roiling: the sound of the inside of my head that every day [says]: “Go, go, go, you stupid bitch. You think you're something and you're fucking nothing, you idiot!”

Recently, St. Vincent was nominated for Best Rock Performance, Best Rock Song with “Broken Man”, Best Alternative Music Performance with “Flea” and Best Alternative Music Album with “All Born Screaming” at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards.
The ceremony will take place at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on February 2, 2025.
