Nathan Evans Releases New Album “1994”
Scottish singer-songwriter Nathan Evans released his sophomore album “1994” on November 8, 2024 via Better Now Records / Universal Music.
The album comprises 12 songs, featuring a guest appearance from British singer-songwriter Foy Vance, produced by Alan Jukes, James Earp, Kingdoms, Lewis Gardiner, Ross Hamilton and Stevie Jukes.
He made the album since 2021 with his band Saint Phnx. The 12-track long-player is a tribute to his community.
Nathan Evans said of the album, “If I was to describe the album, I would say it was Scottish folk pop. Me and the boys from Saint Phnx have been writing in the studio since 2021. We wrote 'Told You So' together and then from there, it's just been building and building and getting bigger and better. From the beginning of the year, we've released 'Heather On The Hill', 'Highland Girl', '100 Miles'. If that's a couple of songs that you like there, then you're going to enjoy the album. It's more of the same and it's just it feels good from beginning to end. It just feels incredible. Basically a load of songs about my wife, Scotland and flowers.”- He shared on social media, “Four years ago when I was working on a building site, I was having panic attacks daily. I had no idea what I was doing with my life. I was absolutely miserable and everything filled me with such dread that I could sometimes barely function... Then a certain song came along and completely flipped my life on it’s head. Now in 2024 I have just released an album full of songs that I wrote that at the time of writing has nearly 100 million streams already. Not bad!!!”
He continued, ”I literally could not have done this without Saint Phnx for a start, these boys have been absolutely incredible, an inspiration to me and an absolute fountain of experience. Thank you to my managers for sticking with me, helping me every step of the way, seeing the vision and trusting the process. Thank you to everyone at the label for giving me the platform and also trusting me and the process of this album. And last but not least, thank you to my beautiful wife for putting up with me and this wild ride that I’ve dragged us on called life. Thank you for raising our incredible little boy while I’m away working all over the world and thank you for being there every step of the way, I Couldn’t have done it without you.” -
Nathan Evans explained about some tracks for the album.
“Heather On The Hill”
“You guys asked and asked, so here we go! When I first posted the video of me singing this one I didn't expect such a huge response to it. So I got into the studio and recorded it!”
“100 Miles”
“After the craziness of Wellerman I had a brief period where life was quiet and calm and I got the chance to start a family and move into a beautiful new home. This year I've been back touring, playing at gigs and events all around the world and although it is amazing it is also incredibly tiring. I wrote this song about that experience and how everytime I leave, no matter how much I enjoy my job, I always want to come home to the life that I've built.
I teased this one a few months ago and was blown away by the feedback. A love song to my family and a promise that no matter how much I travel and no matter how much we're separated, I will be back. I love this one so much and I hope yous enjoy it!”
“Catch You When You Fall”
“Since I was a kid I’ve always had this mentality of 'if you’re going to do something, do it to your full potential and if it doesn’t work out, then at least you know deep down you’ve tried as hard as you possibly can and gave it your best.' With this song, I was trying to put that into words to let people know that it’s okay. Sometimes things don’t work out the way you think they’re going to, but that’s okay. For me when I perform this song, I’m singing it to myself. 'Don’t you be afraid, don’t worry about tomorrow'. You can’t change things that are not in your control so there’s no point in wasting energy and worrying about it. It’s about taking chances and not being scared to let go and try something new. You never know what might be right around the corner, could be life changing, I know it certainly was for me.”
“Paper Planes”
“I recently wrote this song. For anyone who's suffering in silence. Who's going through some hard times. Just know that they don't last. They do pass, and there is always light at the end of the tunnel.
Paper Planes is sort of the heartbeat of this album in a way, because without the pain that I was experiencing during the time that song was about I probably wouldn’t have been able to deliver the joy that you hear in the other songs.
I found this old voice note from the 18th of August 2020 and it was the darkest lowest point of my life. And if you fast forward to the December of 2020. That's when I released 'Wellerman', and my life changed. I ended up living this life that I could never have dreamed of and I took this voice note and I've made this song to show people that you never know what is right around the corner. Life can change and there is always light at the end of the tunnel.”
