Griff Releases New Song “last night's mascara”
British singer-songwriter Griff released a new song “last night's mascara” on November 8, 2024.
The song is the follow-up to a cover of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory Classic “Pure Imagination”.
She wrote the song for her debut album “Vertigo”, which was released back in July. But the track was never finished.
She posted the live performance of the song at opening for Sabrina Carpenter to TikTok. And then, the clip garnered between 28,000 and 205,000 likes.
With reception of fans, she finished the song two days before its release.
The track was written and produced by Griff, with production by Sam Tsang.
Griff shared, “So cool seeing the internet ask for a demo I never finished enough to make the album. The love on this song has been so unexpected. This was a forgotten beat I'd made last year. It's been sitting on my laptop, and I'm so grateful you guys wanted it enough to give it a new life. Been working round the clock to get this out asap while on tour. Hope you love it.”- Griff told Rolling Stone about the song, “I had the idea of makeup being a metaphor for all of your anxieties and worries, or a person that's completely hurt you. It's describing the time period between a Friday or a Saturday night to a Sunday, and the emotional lull of what can happen in your weekend.”
She continued, “I love this one, because this one really is just 100 percent me on the writing and on the production. So it does feel like it's the most pure form of making music, seeing if people like it, and reacting to it.” -
She added, “It's definitely a continuation of Vertigo, but I'm not boxing it in. It's kind of just there. Again, it's a bit of an experiment, so it's not that defined in any kind of spot. But I like the idea that people could discover 'Last Night's Mascara' and go back to the album and still love it in the same way and hear the same emotions and feelings.” - source : Apple Music
