Jude York Releases New Song “Those Were The Days”
Australian singer-songwriter Jude York released a new song “Those Were The Days” on November 1, 2024.
The song is the follow-up to “Another Season Alone”, which was released last month.
The track interpolates Welsh singer-songwriter Mary Hopkin's 1968 “Those Were The Days”, produced by Paul McCartney of The Beatles.
The track evokes a timeless charm by blending his distinct songwriting with a melody rooted in folk music.
It was written by Gene Raskin and produced by Jude York.
The accompanying music video was directed by Susanna Tajik.
Jude York said of the song, “It was a bright spring day on my last birthday, and I was driving down the highway toward a vintage motel that I'd picked out for a photoshoot. I didn't know what this shoot would be for exactly, but I knew that my music was heading in a new direction – classic, nostalgic, and full of life. Suddenly, 'Le Temps Des Fleurs' by Dalida came on the radio. I instantly recognized the melody but couldn't figure out how. Showing it to my photographer and makeup artist, we guessed ABBA, something our parents might have played once upon a time. All I knew was that that melody felt like everything I was trying to achieve in my artistry. After digging deep into the recesses of my brain, the phrase 'Those Were The Days' attached itself to the line, and I could hear exactly where I wanted to take the song. As soon as I started playing with the production and recording vocals, I felt I was onto something special. I couldn't be more excited to share it with the world.”- He shared on social media, “I knew I wanted to create my own take of this song the moment I heard the 60s version on the radio one day. I fell in love with the way that the melody feels so familiar yet distant, that it's a song about longing for the past with a melody that now feels incredibly nostalgic. Everyone knows it, yet not everyone knows how. Re-writing the lyrics, producing, recording and arranging it felt like pure magic in a bottle - I hope I captured that feeling!”
