Shawn Mendes Releases New Song “Heart of Gold”
Canadian singer-songwriter Shawn Mendes released a new song “Heart of Gold” on November 1, 2024.
The song is the fourth single off of his upcoming fifth studio “Shawn”, which is set to be released on November 15, 2024 via Island Records.
The track is written about a childhood friend who passed away from a drug overdose.
It was written by Eddie Benjamin, Mike Sabath, Scott Harris, and Shawn Mendes. Produced by Mike Sabath, Shawn Mendes, and Eddie Benjamin.
The accompanying music video was directed by Connor Brashier and Anthony Wilson.
He first performed the song during his live show at the Brooklyn Paramount Theater in New York on October 18, 2024.
At that time, he said the song dedicated to the late One Direction member Liam Payne, who died on October 16, 2024 at the age of 31 after falling from a hotel room in Argentina.
Shawn Mendes said, “We heard the news about Liam. It felt like… It felt completely devastating. I got to meet him a couple times, and he was a beautiful soul and his eyes gleamed - it was beauty, shining into his eyes.”- He added, “It’s about grieving those we miss with tears, but it’s also about celebrating them... who they were and what they’ve left in this world. I just want to take a second to send so much love to him wherever he is up there... Liam, we love you! And the world is crying for you, brother, and we’re all praying for your son and your family. I miss you. This one's for you tonight, Liam, from all of us.”
