  • Samantha Gongol Releases Debut Solo Single “Flash in the Pan”

  • American electronic music duo Marian Hill's lead singer and singer-songwriter Samantha Gongol released her debut solo single “Flash in the Pan” on October 25, 2024,

The song explores themes of self-reflection, uncertainty, and the passage of time.
She delves into the complexities of getting older, confronting the fear that her moment in the industry might have passed, and wrestling with the question of whether to keep going or walk away.
The track was written by Cole Redding, Samantha Gongol, and Stephen Santa Theresa. The accompanying music video was directed by Matty Vogel.

Samantha Gongol said of the song, “Sonically, it's quite a departure," she says, "but I wanted to have fun with this record and do something really different from the band. I have been in Marian Hill for 10 years, and I love it so much. But I was just craving a little something new.”
  • Samantha Gongol is best known as one-half of the platinum-selling duo Marian Hill.
This started her solo career, showcasing a different sound and a more personal side of her artistry.

Samantha Gongol explained, “For the last ten years, I've been in a band. Despite our successes, very few people actually knew who we were. When being introduced to someone, it was quite common for a conversation to go something like this. Introductee: 'Hey, have you ever heard of Marian Hill?' Someone: Blank stare. No one's home. Introductee: 'You know, they have that song, are you down diddy down?!' Someone: Lights switch on. 'Oh shit, yea! No way, that's you!?' As humbling as that was in 2017, in more recent years it started to feel quite existential. New artists were finding success, friends were getting married, and thanks to covid I was back living in my childhood bedroom. What was once a big and promising dream all seemed a bit mangled in my hands. Everything had me feeling quite like a Flash in the Pan!”

  • She continued, “After a chaotic few years, this song and this story felt right. It's about kissing your 20's goodbye but not feeling ready to settle down. It's about losing sight of a dream that once sustained you. It's about questioning if the thing you loved still makes you happy, or if it's time to walk away and find something new. All while laughing at the absurdity of it all. Because if there's one thing I've learned in this business, it's that when you're hot you're hot! And when you're not, you're really, really not.”

She added, “Marian Hill has allowed me to travel the globe, experience the stuff of dreams, and most importantly, connect with fans from all over the world. I've had the privilege of getting to know many of you, whether it's in person at a show or somewhere in the vast web of social media. I'd love for anyone and everyone who loves Marian Hill to follow my solo rendezvous. It's pretty different from the band so if it's not your thing, I'll see you when Jeremy and I reconvene! Without further ado, to my manager's chagrin and quite the small social media following considering the ten years I spent in Marian Hill, may I present to you, Flash in the Pan.”
