JADE Covers Chase & Status and Stormzy's “Backbone” on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
British singer-songwriter JADE appeared on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of London-based drum and bass duo Chase & Status and British rapper Stormzy's “Backbone”, as well as her latest song “Fantasy”.
This marks the first musical guest on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge as a solo artist for JADE. Back in 2020, JADE appeared on Live Lounge as member of British girl group Little Mix.
The original version of “Backbone” was released by Chase & Status and Stormzy as their first collaborative single in August 2024.
JADE said of the song, “So I'm going to be performing backbone by Chase & Status. I can't believe it. I definitely wanted to surprise people. I wanted to do what wasn't expected. I love this song. Anyways, my nephew shout out. My nephew call it is his favorite song. He loves Stormzy. So I've got some lyrics in there in homage to him. I want to bring my flavor, so I've rewritten some lyrics because I can't see everything Stormzy. So I hope you enjoy it.”- “Fantasy” was released by JADE as her third solo single this month, following “Angel Of My Dreams and “Midnight Cowboy”.
The track was written by Jade Thirlwall, Michael Sabath, and Pablo Bowman Navarro. Produced by Mike Sabath.
JADE said of the song, “'Fantasy' is a love song that I wrote with dream team Pablo Bowman and Mike Sabath about feeling safe enough with your partner to shamelessly explore your fantasies! We wrote this the day after 'AOMD' was written, and from then on I always knew it would be the second single. I can't wait for my fans to experience more of my musical world.” -
The music video for the song was inspired by American TV Soul Train and the 1976 horror film “Carrie”.
JADE said, “It is that old school vibe, which is why the video reflects that as well. I mean, I'm a huge horror movie. That is a classic.” - source : BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
