Mereba Announces New Album “The Breeze Grew a Fire”, Shares New Song “Counterfeit”
American singer-songwriter Mereba has announced her new album “The Breeze Grew a Fire” will be released on February 14, 2025.
This marks her first album in six years since the 2019 album “The Jungle Is the Only Way Out”, and the first release under her new label Secretly Canadian.
The album comprises a 13-track, which she worked with co-producer Sam Hoffman.
On the album, Mereba rediscovers her own sense of creation through her empowerment as a mother, creative, friend, kin, and former child.
Mereba said of the album, “For this [album], it went back to me being on my own for the creation of a lot of the songs, and it was really important for me at this time of life because I was a little disconnected from the world, and from who I was. So I was trying to find my way back to myself first. What do I like? What do I want to hear? What do I want to say to people now?”
From the album, Mereba released the first single called “Counterfeit” along with a music video on October 22, 2024.
The track was written and produced by Mereba and Sam Hoffman. The video was directed by Courtney Sofiah Yates.- Mereba said of the song, “Sometimes, somehow, we become the villain in our own stories. be it self sabotage, blurred purpose, a lostness you can't even name... this song and video are a reminder of the root, the parts of a person no circumstance or darkness can strip away.”
She shared on social media, “Trying to express how much I've missed y'all and sharing my soulwork with you... all the life I've lived in the in between time... but for now let's just say this album brought me back into my love of creation and my trust in self, and I can't wait for it to live inside your lives.” -
