Kylie Minogue Releases New Album “Tension II”
Australian singer-songwriter Kylie Minogue released her seventeenth studio album “Tension II” on October 18, 2024 via BMG.
The album is a sequel to her sixteenth studio album “Tension”, which was released in 2023.
The album comprises a 13-track (extended edition 26 songs), with guest appearances from The Blessed Madonna, Bebe Rexha, Tove Lo, Orville Peck, Diplo, and Sia.
Three songs are featured on other albums: “Edge of Saturday Night” on The Blessed Madonna's debut album “Godspeed”, “Midnight Ride” on Orville Peck's third studio album “Stampede”, and “Dance Alone” on Sia's tenth studio album “Reasonable Woman”.
Kylie Minogue told PAPER Magazine about the album, “Originally, it was just okay, as Charli XCX said, the same, but with three songs. That’s what a repack is, and that’s what we thought we were doing, but for different reasons, I just had a bunch of songs. Three of the collaborations had come to me anyway, because they were for Sia, The Blessed Madonna, Orville Peck, their albums, and they graciously said I could put them on mine as well. So they’re the extras. Then the songs like 'Light, Camera, Action,' 'Taboo,' they felt very much like an expansion of the Tension world. I just had a list, and the list was hard to narrow down to three. So, I spoke with my A&R, and I was in Australia, and said 'What do you think? Could we just do another album, but not the next album, because the next album will be different?'”- Kylie Minogue explained about some tracks for the album.
“Lights Camera Action”
“The kind of call-to-action of ‘lights, camera, action, that’s it’ [of the chorus] just felt a bit catchphrase-y. I just thought it was cool.”
“Edge of Saturday Night” with The Blessed Madonna
Kylie Minogue : “The song came to me through the official channels. I loved it when I heard it. Embarrassingly, it took me quite a while to get back with vocals, just because I had to adapt some of the lyrics so that it made sense to me. That it was authentic enough to me. It’s a slamming track. It’s just got a heat to it. It’s got the energy, and Marea (The Blessed Madonna) is amazing. All I did was put my vocals on it!”
The Blessed Madonna: “This song is about edges. I started this song when we were on the edge of lockdown, writing lyrics on the edge of being a new person, on the edge of levelling up as a producer. The song went on a journey but finally found its edge when Kylie came into my life and breathed an energy into Edge, and into me. So here we are together, Marge and Kiki.” -
“My Oh My” featuring Bebe Rexha & Tove Lo
“I suddenly got really nervous. It's always a moment. I can tell you that it's with two wonderful artists who are incredible songwriters and artists and performers in their own right and the three of us coming together on this song. And I think the next step is just to play it.”
“Midnight Ride” with Orville Peck & Diplo
Orville Peck: “Doing this song with Kylie and Diplo was a dream come true. Kylie was the first person I asked to be on Stampede because I knew exactly the kind of magic we could all make together.” - source : Apple Music
