  • PVRIS Releases New EP “F.I.L.T.H.”

  • American rock band PVRIS released a new EP “F.I.L.T.H.” on October 18, 2024 via Hopeless Records.

This marks the first project since the 2023 album “Evergreen”.
The EP comprises 5 songs, featuring guest appearances from Tommy Genesis, Alice Longyu Gao, Sizzy Rocket, Uffie, MOTHICA, and Lights, produced by PVRIS.
It was entirely crafted by female, non-binary, and queer personnel, including engineers and producers.

The band founder Lynn Gunn said of the EP, “'F.I.L.T.H.' is a self-produced collaborative music project between friends and past tour-mates. I wanted to make a small project where some other female/non-binary artists could hop into the world of PVRIS and vice-versa, have as much control over the lyrics and music as they wanted and simply just have fun making some music together! Everyone had free rein to write what they wanted and add their own voice (figuratively and literally) to each track. All songs were created, mixed, mastered by women/non-binary friends and all were written and produced at home in my apartment and then completed on the road while on tour. Wish there was more time to make even more... hoping to more projects like this in the future!.”
  • Lynn Gunn said of the project, “At its core, I just wanted to make a fun project full of some bad bitches in music that I love and create a space where we can express whatever we want and get to experiment sonically. I didn't want to be overly precious about it, I just want to have fun and free flow! It should be noted that while there are already so many iconic and incredible female producers, writers, engineers etc. out there - I'm no trailblazer here - there is nowhere near the amount that there should be. This isn't even something to debate, go look at the statistics.”

She continued, “I think I've truly been in hundreds of writing/producing sessions at this point in my career and I can recall less than 20 of those that were with female writers and around 10 that were with female producers. From labels and publishers to management, there is so little advocacy to get artists into rooms with women in general. It's even rarer to see the same advocacy towards connecting and putting only women in a room together, especially without it being made into a commodity, 'special event' or task to check off. These collaborations should be happening organically regardless of who is watching.”
  • She added, “I don't really understand what everyone is so scared of? That we'll all have too much fun together? It's all I've experienced in this chapter (of working almost exclusively with women); just pure fun. I feel like a kid again and this is the least stressed I've felt making music and I really hope I can be a small part in helping to facilitate those same feelings outward for the other artists I'm bringing onto this project and working with in general. I don't want this to be the only 'volume' of this project, there's too many bad bitches in all music making roles out there to cover in just one release like this. This is something I'd love to continue and grow in.”

PVRIS explained track-by-track for the EP.

“Burn The Witch” featuring Tommy Genesis & Alice Longyu Gao
PVRIS: “I've been a huge fan of both Tommy and Alice for quite a while so it was an absolute dream to not only have them on a track together but to also get to be crafting the production around their parts.”

“F.I.L.T.H.” featuring Sizzy Rocket & Uffie
Sizzy Rocket: “My dream collab. Lynn Gunn to say you're an incredible producer feels like the understatement of the century and Uffie, your style and essence is unmatched. I had the time of my life making this one.”

    “Reptilian” featuring MOTHICA
MOTHICA: “Got my phone privileges back to make this. Of course my collab with my favorite artist comes out while I'm in rehab lol.”

    “The Blob” featuring Lights
PVRIS: “Lights has been a huge inspiration to me as an artist ever since I started making music and especially early on when I started recording shitty demos and learning to produce. She was one of the only female multi-instrumentalist artists who also produced that I was aware of at the time and within the scene we both sort of came up in, it was a rarity. It's an honor to know her and to have been able to create a song with her, she is the ultimate sweetheart-goofball-song witch-sorceress-bad-ass-cool-girl. We've known each other for years at this point and have had some great times sweating in my 100 degree apartment, drinking margaritas and making the least serious beats on Logic, so we were long overdue to do an actual “serious” track together. I sent her an early version of this track a few months back and within a few days she recorded and sent back her verse and the choruses. It was the most unexpected and pleasant surprise to hear her ideas over the instrumental, the melodies she brought to this track took it to an entirely new world that I could have never imagined on my own. An honor to have her one-of-a-kind spirit in this track. It's an honor to present you with... 'THE BLOB!!'”

Lights: “It finally happened!!! Lynn and I have been on and off working on music for actual years at this point, little of this little of that starting in 2020 and it's been the biggest tease cause I just love her, just a true talent who understands her art so deeply, and is always one step ahead of the game in production and melodies and art direction. When she slid the blob across my desk (my texts) in March I knew it was finally the right blob for us and that shit came together so fast. Lynn ur a goddess.”

    “Oil & Water”
PVRIS: “The song is about the push and pull of mismatched love and the lengths you'd go to make it work. I rented a house (which may have been haunted) in Kansas City on two of our off-days and wrote/recorded the music, verse and pre-chorus there… Finished the chorus and rest of the song in LA with Kanner. Finished producing and finalized the track in Northern California in Nevada City.”
