MØ Premieres New Song “Who Said” on BBC Radio 1
Danish singer-songwriter MØ premiered a new song “Who Said” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the follow-up to “Fake Chanel”, which was released back in January from the 10th anniversary edition of her debut album “No Mythologies to Follow”.
Also, the song will appear on her upcoming forth studio album.
She wrote the original version of the song in 2015.
The track was written by Clementine Douglas, Karen Ørsted, Karin Dreijer, Nick Sylvester, Olof Björn Dreijer, and Ronni Vindahl. Produced by Nick Sylvester.
The accompanying music video was directed by Fryd Frydendahl.
“Just that I am absolutely obsessed with the song, it started originally in 2015, but then we rearranged it and now it is ready to be played,” MØ told Jack Saunders about the song. “I think this one really showcases my love of just making silly backing vocals and like, having fun. It has a very puppy, don't think you own me kind of energy. But then it also has this really dark, pulsating electronic base kind of lying underneath it the whole time and I think. For me, that's really a sweet spot, having fun and doing the pop thing, but then also doing something that's a bit dark and edgy and lack of better adjectives.”- She continued, “I think, obviously I wrote it like a sort of like a romantic relationship, but for me, it is very much that thing of like just loving to be individual and doing your own thing, and about just not letting people own you because they don't.”
She added, “I will say, with this song and with the new music coming up, it's been really nice practicing, actually, first and foremost, listening to myself, but then, of course, be once you know what you want, then being open to listen. I think what I've learned is just that it's really, really important that you know what your values are as an as an artist, but also as a person, and that you have good people around you and that you collaborate with people that you think are sick, so that you can experiment, but within a safe space.” -
MØ recorded the new album with producer Nick Sylvester between Copenhagen and Los Angeles.
MØ told DORK about the song, “I think this record felt much more involved, because I made my last record, 'Motordrome', during Covid, and the one before that, 'Forever Neverland', I was on tour for most of it, so they were both quite isolating experiences. This record definitely feels more like 'I created this', because even when we brought people in, we already had fragments of songs ready.”
