Lindsey Rose Black Covers Troye Sivan's “One Of Your Girls”
Texas-based singer-songwriter Lindsey Rose Black is back. She released a cover of Australian singer-songwriter Troye Sivan's “One Of Your Girls” along with a music video on October 4, 2024.
The song is her first single in two years since the 2022 EP “Subterra”.
The original version of the song was released by Troye Sivan as the third single from his third studio album “Something to Give Each Other” in 2023.
The track was written by Brett Leland McLaughlin, Oscar Görres, and Troye Sivan.
The cover version was produced by Jeni Magaña, and Emily Moore who is Troye Sivan's touring guitarist.
Lindsey Rose Black said of the song, “The second I heard 'One Of Your Girls' for the first time, I knew I had to cover it with a sapphic lens! The lyrics immediately took me back to growing up in a conservative community and being scared to explore my sexuality in high school, but crushing on my girl friends and trying to figure out how to navigate it. What would make them look at me the way they looked at the football players?!”- She continued, “I tried to capture this time visually, too, through a subversive play on homecoming — embodying both masculine and feminine energies with a Texas-centric twist. Those crazy ribbons are called mums, and a funny Texas homecoming tradition. It was a stroke of luck that I rediscovered mine from high school in my dad's attic this summer and then everything came together!”
She added, “I am so full of joy and gratitude to now be in a mental space where I can wholeheartedly embrace both my small town Texas roots and my queer identity simultaneously, and hope other Southern folks on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Shout-out to therapy!” -
