  • Jake Bugg Releases New Album “A Modern Day Distraction”

  • British singer-songwriter Jake Bugg released his sixth studio album “A Modern Day Distraction” on October 4, 2024 via Arista Records.

This marks his first album in three years since the 2021 album “Saturday Night, Sunday Morning”.
The album comprises a 12-track, and produced by Metrophonic at Metrophonic Studios in London.
On the album, Jake Bugg returns to his roots on the rock.
The album was born out of frustration with societal inequality and shines a light on the injustice he's seen dealt to the family and friends he grew up with.

Jake Bugg said of the album, “People might say 'What do you know?' or 'Just stick to music'. I've got a bit of money, but we all know the people this affects. I was just writing it because it was the way I felt. It pisses me off - especially in a country like ours where we have the means and funds to take care of the people suffering the most, but we choose not to.”
  • Jake Bugg shared on social media, “We finally have the records, and I thought I'd share a little bit about the songs. So yeah, let's get into it. So the first song of the record is 'Zombieland', which was the first single that we wrote for the album or the first song we wrote for the album. And I wasn't really sure what this album was gonna be, but when we did that song, I thought, you know, maybe this could be a good direction and that was kind of the birth of the record really with that song. And then the second song was actually 'All Kinds of People' as well, which, you know, we thought was a good follow up. And it's really fun to play live. It's got a nice like bit of a punky energy about it. And really enjoy playing that one. And also, we got 'Instant Satisfaction', where the lyric and 'a modern day distraction', comes from for the name of the album, I thought it was a good fit. And also, lastly, I would say, probably, my personal favorite off the album is 'Beyond The Horizon'. But that's my personal favorite.”

  • Jake Bugg explained track-by-track for the album via whynow.

    “Zombieland”
“It's about the grind that drains the life out of you, with no way out.
It's fucking brutal. [People live in] a constant cycle of working to live. They're not paid what they're worth. People have the same routine every day, they're at work more than they see their kids, then the government puts the retirement age up. It's not right.”

    “All Kinds of People”
“We all take different roads, but in the end, we're all looking for the same thing.
We all have our struggles. In British culture, we don't really talk to anyone about that. You need to talk about these things with the people you love. We have to try and help each other, because there's not much help out there.”

    “Breakout”
“You can feel imprisoned by where you're from, but at some point, you either make a move or you rot.”

    “Never Said Goodbye”
“I'd lost a few people close to me. It's the hardest thing, knowing you'll never get the chance to say what you wanted. Sometimes just knowing you're not the only one helps.”

    “I Wrote the Book”
“I've had my fair share of rough times. No matter how bad you think you've got it, there's always someone going through worse.
We filmed this in the West of Ireland at an amazing pub on a day off between shows. We invited the locals to join us for a few drinks and a sing along. It was a great time!”
“We went to an amazing pub in the West of Ireland on a day off between shows and invited locals to join us for a few drinks to play them this song early. Thanks to Eammon Ryan for making it happen, as well as everyone below for helping out.
Floriane Blancke - harp, Quentin Cooper - mandolin, Brendan Larrissey - fiddle, Neil O'Loughlin - flute and double bass, all the locals and our band and crew. Also not forgetting the brilliant Margeret, the landlady from O'Loclainn's bar in Ballyvaughan!”

    “Waiting for the World”
“It's about expecting the world to give you everything without you putting in the effort. But by the time you realise that's not how it works, you're left wondering where it all went wrong.”

    “Instant Satisfaction”
“We distract ourselves constantly whether it's through phones, booze, whatever. Anything to avoid facing the real problems.”

    “Got to Let You Go”
“Sometimes you've got to let go of your old self. The person you were might have got you through tough times, but they can also hold you back from becoming who you need to be.”

“All That I Needed Was You”
“It's about searching for something you don't realise was right in front of you all along.”

    “Keep On Moving”
“No matter what, you can't let life hold you back. It's the kind of track you just want to get up and move to.”

    “Beyond the Horizon”
“We all have those people who come along and make us see things differently. They give you hope in ways you didn't know you needed.”

    “Still Got Time”
“I wanted to end on something hopeful. Even when it feels like everything's against you, there's still time to turn it around.”
