Fontaines D.C. Covers Lana Del Rey's “Say Yes To Heaven” on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge
Irish post-punk band Fontaines D.C., consisting of Carlos O'Connell (guitar), Conor Curley (guitar), Conor Deegan III (bass), appeared on BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge to perform a cover of American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey's “Say Yes To Heaven” and their original song “Favourite”.
The original version of “Say Yes To Heaven” was written by Lana Del Rey with producer Rick Nowels in 2012 for her 2014 third studio album “Ultraviolence”.
But the song did not include on the album. After that, the track was leaked online and went viral on TikTok. Finally she official released on May 19, 2023.
The band frontman Carlos O'Connell is huge Lana Del Rey's fan. He told NME in an interview, “Her music leans into an era of cinema that I love, and she writes in a way where people can find stories in her music. I honestly think we’d do a really good tune together.”- “Favourite” is featured on their fourth studio album “Romance”, which was released back in April.
The song was released as the second single off of the album.
The track was written by Grian Chatten, Conor Curley, Carlos O'Connell, Conor Deegan and Tom Coll. Produced by James Ford.
Carlos O'Connell told Apple Music about the song, “‘Favourite’ was another one we wrote when we were rehearsing. It happened pretty much as it is now. We were kind of nervous about touching it again for the album because that first recording was so good. That’s the song that hung around in our camp for the longest. When we write songs on tour, often we end up getting bored of them over time but ‘Favourite’ really stuck. We had a lot of conversations about the order on this album and I felt it was really important to move from ‘Romance’ to ‘Favourite.’ It feels like a journey from darkness into light, and finishing on ‘Favourite’ leaves it in a good spot.” - source : BBC Radio 1
