MARIS Releases New Song “Chameleon”
Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter MARIS released a new song “Chameleon” on September 27, 2024.
The song is the introspective new ballad featuring her emotional vocals unlike her previous songs of 2024 the likes of “Salt Water Taffy”, “The Fight, and “Julia Roberts”.
The track explores themes of self comparison and the pressures of constantly morphing to fit in.
She wrote the song with producer Ian Walsh.
MARIS said of the song, “I wrote ‘Chameleon’ with Ian Walsh during one of my lowest points where I wanted to change everything about myself. Living in Los Angeles has been a battle, especially in the arena of self-comparison. There's a lot of beautiful, rich, successful people here, and if you're not one of them, you're trying to be. It can be incredibly heavy. I used to be so proud of being a chameleon, someone who can adapt to any room and anything. Now, I think that adaptability is valuable, but I want to focus on being steady in myself.”- She shared on social media, “I have a lot of feelings about this song, but mostly I feel weird and vulnerable and nervous and kind of embarrassed. actually it’s really embarrassing to lay out almost all of my insecurities and problems in this song this way. But if I hadn’t found a place to put all that darkness, I genuinely think I would’ve packed up all my stuff, moved back to Montana, and tried to pursue something else. So anyway.
