  • Barry Can't Swim Premieres New Song “Still Riding” on BBC Radio 1

  • London-based Scottish DJ Barry Can't Swim premiered a new song “Still Riding” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song samples Colombian-American singer Kali Uchis' 2015 “Ridin' Round”, which is included on her debut EP “Por Vida”.
But he took two years to clear for the sample.
The track is the second single since the 2023 debut album “When Will We Land?”, following “Kimbara” released back in April.
It was written by Alex Ben-Abdallah, Dacoury Natche, Jason Fleming, Joshua Mainnie, and Karly Loaiza. Produced by Joshua Mainnie.

Barry Can't Swim told Jack Saunders about the song, “I've been sitting on this track for two years, desperately trying to clear the sample, playing out in clubs, playing my live show, just hoping to clear it. And finally, two years later, we got there.”

He continued, “It's from a track called 'Ridin' Round' by Kali Uchis. And I think it took long just because she's a total superstar, right? I mean like, why am I going to clear this guy? And then, two years later, things have started to grow. Things have started to get better. But, it's been a long time coming.”
  • He shared on social media, “Almost 2 years ago to the day I played this tune for the very first time at Spotify's Printworks takeover. Life has moved pretty fast and since then I dropped it in my Mixmag lab, at Coachella, my livestream b2b with Felix, it's been a mainstay of my live show with the band, and we even got to play it live on the Park Stage at Glasto all without it ever actually being released. Anyway, I can FINALLY say the sample is cleared, and the tune is out in the world now!”

  • Recently, he was shortlisted for the 2024 Mercury Music Prize alongside the likes of Charli XCX, Beth Gibbons, English Teacher, Ghetts and The Last Dinner Party. Barry sits among Aphex Twin, Nia Archives, Burial, Jamie XX, Fred again.. and Jon Hopkins.
