  • Victoria Canal Announces Debut Album “Slowly, It Dawns”, Shares New Song “Cake”

  • Spanish-American singer-songwriter Victoria Canal has announced her upcoming debut album “Slowly, It Dawns” will be released on January 17, 2025.

The album comprises a 12-track, which she wrote and recorded between London and Los Angeles over the course of the past three years.

Victoria Canal said of the album, “I'm trying to be honest and unapologetic about what I want to put out there, whether it's wholesome, sexy, loud, quiet, if I'm being femme or masc; I don't want to apologize for it.”

She continued, “Life does feel like the sun rising. You come into the world with very little clarity on the way things are - everything's a little hazy and confusing. Then, as you get older, your eyes adjust to what life is; it gets messy and complicated, then spiritual and expansive.”
  • From the album, she unveiled a new song “Cake” on September 13, 2024.
The song received its first play during BBC Radio 1's Future Artists with Sian Eleri.
The track was written by Francis Anthony White, Jonny Lattimer, and Victoria Canal. Produced by Eg White.

Victoria Canal said of the song, “It’s 6am, you’re still going on a night out and everything’s gone a little too wonky... ‘Cake’ is the bottled up feeling of dreading (and therefore adamantly avoiding) going back to adult responsibilities, and indeed the crushing weight of the world. It’s the desperate desire to hold onto the escape just a little bit longer, even as it starts to go sour.”

She shared on social media, “This song was such a joy to make, I fully let go into nihilist escapism & felt such catharsis in going absolutely nuts lol. This is my bond song, my radiohead moment, my 4am past-the-point-of-no-return all-nighter.”

  • She continued about the album, “This is truly the culmination of my life’s work to date (super chill! i’m totally fine!) and by far the most ambitious project I’ve ever taken on, emotionally, artistically, spiritually. It documents the natural and continuous unraveling of life, and also its cyclical nature. It’s somewhat meta to try to write about the themes on the record - pleasant naïveté, undeniable connection, confidence, nihilist abandon, creative obsession, social anxiety, pressure, comparison, forgiveness - when I feel all these very things about the record itself.”

She added, “There’s a consequence of diving into things fully, obsessively: you either find shining treasure, wildly fail, or come out somewhere in between - in any outcome, you learn and grow, eternally watering the flower that is 'self'”.
