  • Katy Perry Releases New Album “143”

  • American singer-songwriter Katy Perry released her seventh studio album “143” on September 20, 2024 via Capitol Records.

This marks her first album in four years since the 2020 album “Smile”.
The album comprises a 11-track, featuring guest appearances from German singer-songwriter Kim Petras, American rappers 21 Savage, Doechii, and JID.
On the album, she worked with producer Dr. Luke, who also produced her three albums “One of the Boys”, “Teenage Dream”, and “Prism”.
The album title is named after her angel number and for how people typed “I love you” back in the pager era.

Katy Perry told Zane Lowe of Apple Music about her angel number, “A couple years ago, we were going through a little bit of a hard time medically in our family, and it was a little bit scary, and I started seeing 143 in many different ways, not just, like, on the phone. It was just like trippy, almost. And I looked it up, and it's code for 'I love you.' I really believe it was my angels, my guides, saying, 'I love you. We got you. We're going to protect you. You're exactly where you're meant to be. You're on the path.”
  • Katy Perry said of the album, “I set out to create a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message. I've been talking about [doing] two albums the past eight years and that's a dance album and an acoustic album. I finally made the dance album, the album I always wanted to make.”

She added, “This record is super high energy, it's super summer, it's very high BPM. We just had a family dance party to one of the songs, and it's just full of so much joy, so much love, so much light.”
  • Katy Perry told Zane Lowe about the album, “When I was going through [2008 debut album] One of the Boys, it was like, 'Oh my god, hold on to this ride!' And now, 143 is the celebration of that wholeness, which is a space I've never written a record from. I've always written a record from defense, or not feeling enough, or trying to transmute my trauma. The biggest lie I think artists have ever been sold is that they have to stay in pain in order to create. That's absolutely not true.”

She continued, “I just wanted to explore other territories; I didn't want to keep repeating myself. The energy I'm hoping to create is freedom to be yourself - freedom to be sweaty, freedom to dance with a stranger.”

Katy Perry explained about some tracks for the album.

    “WOMAN'S WORLD”
“I'm full up now. So I am creating from a place of happiness and wholeness, which is super rare, I think. And scary for artists because I think the biggest lie that we've ever been sold is that we have to stay in pain in order to create great art. But once you're full up, there's this you're operating from the light and joy and like, beauty and you can share that with the world. Now woman's world is if not the whole record, right? And I know you got to hear some of the record. It's actually truly I think, the bridge for me, it's the bridge because from..
I think that people, they kind of when they think of me, they think of 'Roar' or they think of 'Firework' sometimes they think of 'I kissed a Girl' but I think mostly, they think of these kind of empowering songs, songs with a message songs that are like, captions on T shirts and stuff like that, or things that help people get through. And I love that I love hearing the stories and really I write these songs from a place where I need to get through something. But so I wanted to continue with that. And also, this is the first contribution I've given since becoming a mother and since feeling really connected to my feminine divine, so I wanted to start with that. Now that feminine divine has unlocked a lot of other things. It's unlocked this like grounded sexuality, the strength, it's a really it's a security.”

“I'M HIS, HE'S MINE” featuring Doechii
“I invited Doechii to come on the track and do her thing, and she did her thing. I think she is one of the coolest, best, most talented, most intelligent, most grounded new artist in the scene, and I'm excited that I was able to collab with her. I spent the day with her in the studio, and she was just, like, just all brains and beauty, and I was blown away and super humble, but she's also cunt.”

    “LIFETIMES”
“'Lifetimes' is a song about eternal love. It's about finding that one deep and satisfying love of your life. A soulmate doesn't always have to come in the form of a partner - it can come in all different ways, a child, a best friend, a pet. For me it is my daughter - I ask her every night, 'Will you find me in every lifetime?' She says yes, and I feel found. You'll find each other, over and over again, for lifetimes.”

    “WONDER”
“It's a song about maintaining your wonder and your wide-eyes for your whole life and never letting the cynicism of the world affect that. One day when we're older, that our hearts still have that fire. Its about growing up, but not growing old”
