Dawes Releases New Song “Surprise!”
Los Angeles-based rock band Dawes, consisting of Taylor Goldsmith (guitars/vocals) and Griffin Goldsmith (drums), released a new song “Surprise!” on September 18, 2024.
The song is the third single off of their upcoming ninth studio album “Oh Brother”, which is set to be released on Octoner 11, 2024.
The track explores the unpredictable nature of life and was written while Taylor Goldsmith was settling into fatherhood.
It was written by Taylor Zachary Goldsmith. Produced by Mike Viola, Taylor Goldsmith, and Griffin Goldsmith.
“The things you hope for never arrive as anticipated, if at all,” Taylor Goldsmith said of the song. “The things that scare you are not what you should have actually been worried about. The person you were wouldn't recognize the person you are, but not in the ways you'd expect. It's a song about getting older and taking stock in how elegantly (or not) we've all navigated the terrain.”- The new album comprises a 9-track, and is the first release after the departure of bassist Wiley Gelber and keyboardist Lee Pardini.
Each track was initially recorded live with just Taylor Goldsmith and Griffin Goldsmith, later incorporating additional studio instrumentation.
Taylor Goldsmith said of the album, “All you can really do is find out what are the most essential, truest, and idiosyncratic parts of yourself. And I like the fact that Griffin and I are kind of clinging to each other and holding on to each other more than we ever have. We’re grateful for each other in a new way.
