  • The Beaches Releases New Song “Jocelyn”

  • Canadian rock band The Beaches, consisting of Jordan Miller (lead vocals/bass), Kylie Miller (guitar), Leandra Earl (keyboards/guitar) and Eliza Enman-McDaniel (drums), released a new song “Jocelyn” on September 18, 2024.

The song is the follow-up to “Takes One To Know One”, which was released by July.
The track was inspired by how their world changed after their sophomore album “Blame My Ex” went viral. The sophomore album was released last September.
“Jocelyn” is their fan's real name. Co-writer Lowell kept singing the name “Jocelyn” and the band decided to seek out a fan named Jocelyn to dedicate the song to.
The track was written by Eliza Enman-Mcdaniel, Elizabeth Lowell Boland, Gus van Go, Jordan Miller, Kylie Miller, and Leandra Earl. Produced by Lowell and Gus van Go.

The band lead singer Jordan Miller said of the song, “We wanted to write about the experience of feeling undeserving of all the reverence that was being thrown away after 'Blame My Ex' did so well. All of us in the band are just a bunch of messy girls, and we felt strange about the way that some people were putting us on pedestals. Anyways, at some point during the session, our co-writer Lowell kept singing the name 'Jocelyn', so we decided to see if we had any fans who were named Jocelyn, and we found one! We kind of wrote it about this brilliant young woman, and about the experience we were going through, feeling uncomfortable and undeserving of Jocelyn's adulation.”
  • Jordan Miller told Rolling Stone about the song, “I was still in a sad, tender state and definitely partying a lot. People kept calling us role models and I felt like I wasn't a role model at all, I didn't wan't that label! So it was a strange juxtaposition between experiencing such success in a professional setting and then personally not feeling quite confident about yourself. I wanted to write about that dynamic.”

  • She continued, “There's that lyric in there that says 'Everything I do you should probably do the opposite' and then we wanted to have a real name in there, so Jocelyn came up. We found one who was in a sorority in Iowa and we took a lot of cues from her. She was getting her PhD, she was so smart and beautiful and she likes us! I hope she still follows us after this comes out.”

Guitarist Kylie Miller added, “It’s an interesting thing. When you’re feeling so low, but people are looking up to you for the first time. It’s an odd thing to go through and we wanted to write a song about that experience, because even your idols can be flawed.”
