Qarinah Releases Debut EP “Transcendent”
Portland-based metal duo QARINAH, consisting of Miss Randall (vocals/drums) and Waldemar Sorychta (guitar), released their debut EP “Transcendent” on September 13, 2024.
The EP comprises a 4-track, which all songs were written and produced by Miss Randall and Waldemar Sorychta.
The band recorded in Bochum, Germany and Chino, California.
The band lead singer Miss Randall said of the EP, “Aside from the great Waldemar Sorychta, I wanted to express my deepest admiration toward the fallen former lead singer in Grip Inc. Gus Chambers, and also Dave Lombardo, an accomplished drummer who needs no introduction. All these unique characters shaped who I am in metal and created something larger than life that I look up to: pure raw metal with emotion.” It all starts with “Hell or High Water.”- Guitarist Waldemar Sorychta added, This is a combination between hard grooves like Grip Inc. and melodic tunes that are working harmonically and not as opposites. Overall, the music is made with soul and passion presented with great production and heavy sound. Miss Randall's voice brings in the heavy parts with a touch of California punk. I'm very proud of this result and there are many more written and pre-produced. This is just the beginning.”
It all starts with “Hell or High Water”, a song about fighting against all odds.
Then, “Impermanence” which is an honest anthem about our inevitable demise.
“Not For Sale” is another tune that comes from the dissatisfaction with the societal rules when it comes to being unapologetically you.
And finally, “Alchemy” talks about the stages of alchemical transformation in a human being as they are doing The Work. -
The band explained about some tracks for the EP.
“Hell or High Water”
“It's song about perseverance against all odds, bringing back the oldschool sound of classic early Century Media albums produced by Waldemar, but with a modern flair.
Vocals & guitars recorded in Germany by Waldemar, Miss Randall drums tracked in Helsinki, Finland by Jan Rechberger at Moon Unit. Mixed by Dennis Koehne. It will blow your mind.”
“Not For Sale”
Miss Randall: “This song can be interpreted in many ways, the most obvious being what I lived through as a young musician lady in Hollywood, a place where one is surrounded by music industry men who want to mold you to their will. But in general, this song goes out to those who are like me, who don't quite fit the mold but still, do what they do best without selling out. It brings back my younger Discordian self who wanted to tear everything down, be off the grid, and break up with what society and culture imposed on me.”
Waldemar Sorychta: “The song is based on an old riff idea with new heavy parts that were creatively put together just as we prepared this EP and the written full-length. Of course, the song title is out of irony (we sure aim to sell it!).”
