Pa Salieu Premieres New Song “Belly” on BBC Radio 1
Gambian-British rapper Pa Salieu is back. Salieu was convicted of possessing a bottle as an offensive weapon & violent disorder leading to a sentence of 33 months in prison in 2022.
Just 48 hours after his release from prison, he premiered a new song “Belly” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is his first music in two years since the collaborative song “Magazine” with Swedish rapper Yasin.
The track was written by Alastair O'Donnell, Felix Joseph, Janée “Jin Jin” Bennett, Jermaine Scott, and Pa Salieu. Produced by AOD and Felix Joseph.
The accompanying music video was directed by Earthbo.
The song is one of over 300 songs he wrote in prison.- Pa Salieu told Jack Saunders about the song, “This is for people climbing over mountains, overcoming adversity. I have over 300 songs in the space of three years. I'm not flossing. I'm just saying hard work is hard work. My songs are tools. I don't have a genre. If it was to be a genre, it would be called freedom of speech. I made songs for every year. Lived in Gambia, grew up in Gambia, grew up in England, Coventry, London, Serrekunda, Banjul. It's like I make music for every year. There's no what you call it bias within music. This is freedom. This is that ancient art.”
