  • Cassyette Releases Debut Album “This World Fucking Sucks”

  • British rock singer-songwriter Cassyette released her highly-anticipated debut album “This World Fucking Sucks” on August 23, 2024 via 23 Recordings.

The album comprises a 15-track, produced by Olly Burden, Tylr Rydr, Shaun Lopez, David Stewart, and Ash Howes.
She co-wrote the songs alongside Bambie Thug, Nicolas Schneider, Oliver Burden, Olivia Sebastianelli, Olly Burden and Tylr Rydr.
On the album, she explores difficult and personal topics such as the death of her beloved father and her struggles with addiction.

Cassyette said of the album, “I've put in so much work and I've collaborated with so many amazing and talented people and I'm so grateful to see it brought to life. Since my Dad's passing, I've tried my best to not surrender to the darkness that comes with grief. It's from that darkness that 'This World Fucking Sucks' was born, and I really hope to do him proud, and that anyone that's going through the same thing takes comfort in listening to it. We're in this together.”
  • Cassyette told Rock Sound about the album's sound, “I found my sound through experimenting. Over the years, I've been finding what I like the most. The most important thing for me is to make sure my heart is in it. I'm a massive music fan anyway, so it's nice. It's a good opportunity for me, any time I make a song, to think about references. Loads of different references from loads of different places and genres. I hone in on little things I like from other places and form ideas that way. It's come from years of experimenting with different genres.”

She continued, “I love going into sessions with other artists and writing their music and getting into their heads. Over time you build up that experience of finding the magic in each room you're in with someone else. It might strike a chord with me where I love the way we went about that process. Then I put all of the best bits into this project and filled it out. It's about finding your integrity, all of the things that make you tick.”

  • Cassyette explained about some tracks for the album.

“This World Fucking Sucks” via Rock Sound
“I was in a fucking terrible mood that day, and Shaun dealt with me well. He was like, 'just go in the booth and get it all out.' I'm such a military officer when it comes to how the vocals sound. It was a vibe. I was showing the album in its demo form to my managers, and Dave was like, why don't you call it that? You're talking about that the whole way through the album. Sometimes the best things just click.”

    “Friends In Low Places”
“'Friends in Low Places' is the last song I added to the album. It felt like the final piece of the puzzle after writing a record about times of hardship, while grieving my dad, getting clean after struggling with addiction and ending a long term relationship.
This album needed 'Friends in Low Places' to even exist in the first place. It's because of those very important friends that continued to hold me up at every pitfall that I am even still here, and vice versa.”

    “Why Am I Like This?”
“For the thing was like when I was typed in the album, I was like, the album's like so heavy like subject wise, I was like they need to have kind of a jokes, I always love. So like, it has its tongue in cheek nerds as well metal as being like, a real fact. And I felt like 'Why am I like this?' Everyone is constantly asking at least my friends or anyone.”
It's been crazy because I've ever played either for months. Like that whole hiatus was like writing music, just like get my head in that keeping my head in that, so I haven't played. The first time we played was in Cardiff and this massive arena. And I was like, it was so separate. But it was the best crowd and these the crowds and they thought in phenomenal. It's been a party every single night.”

    “When She Told Me”
“'When She Told Me' is about the moment my mum told me we lost my dad. It was the worst moment of my life. My vision literally flipped upside down. I didn't find out until recently that this is a stress response where your body is about to shut down. It felt unexplainable and this song is as close as I got. If you know this feeling this is for you.”

    “Over It”
“It came to me the day after I wrote my song 'Mayhem' - it was like a part two of the song. I actually left it for a while and came back to it a year later, unable to let the song go, I realised I wasn't able to let the feelings go either.
It feels very much like it's had a few different life cycles. When I finally allowed myself to be honest with my feelings, 'Over It' was born. The song is about the times I have found myself repeating the same patterns of limerence over and over again after failing relationships. It's about the convoluted clusterfuck of thoughts and feelings I find myself going over and over as a chronic over-thinker in love.”
