Pat Burgener Teams Up with Oddbox for New Song “Free”
Swiss professional snowboarder and singer-songwriter Pat Burgener teamed up with London-based producer and his brother Oddbox to release a new song “Free” along with a music video on August 30, 2024.
Volkswagen California will use the song in its next European campaign.
The track was written by Max Burgener and Pat Burgener. Produced by Oddbox.
Pat Burgener made the song in four days in a surf camp in Portugal.
The track has a vintage folk/country feel crisply captured with Oddbox's reverb-soaked modern production.
The accompanying video intersperses intimate camcorder-style shots with crisp, clear ones while occasionally weaving in playful edits, depicts Pat and some friends enjoying resplendent sunset beaches, surfing and skating.
Pat Burgener said of the song, “I believe true freedom is a fundamental right that all humans should be born with, yet in reality, it is often elusive. In a world where millions lack the freedom to shape their own destinies, I felt the need to write a song of hope about it. Every person deserves the opportunity to write their own story and build their life according to their own vision, regardless of their ethnicity, gender or background.”- Pat Burgener shared on social media, “I wrote this song about freedom. From a young age, I’ve always had this instinct to stay free. While others told me to follow a traditional path, I chose the opposite-embracing a sports/music career and living on the road in a van. This lifestyle has been my way of finding true freedom, and it inspired me to write this song.”
Pat Burgener is currently touring across 5 countries and has 15 upcoming concerts.

Pat Burgener is a Swiss Olympic snowboarder and singer-songwriter, who turned to music after a snowboarding injury in 2014. During his recovery, he partnered with his brother Max, also known as Oddbox, to pool their talents and make music together.
Pat Burgener said, “I travel a lot. With my early music, I made a lot of melancholic songs. During COVID, I wanted to make people smile. That's when I found my path”.
