Zedd Releases New Album “Telos”
German DJ Zedd released his third studio album “Telos” on August 30, 2024 via Interscope Records.
This marks his first album in nine years since the 2015 album “True Colors”.
The album comprises a 10-track, featuring collaborations and guest appearances from Bea Miller, Ellis, Grey, Bava, the Olllam, Remi Wolf, Jeff Buckley, Mesto, Dora Jar, John Mayer, and Muse. Produced by Zedd, Ellis, and GreyMesto.
He started working on the album in 2020.
Zedd said of the album, “With Telos, I wanted to create a profound album listening experience that takes you on a journey beyond just the songs. I wanted everyone to be able to feel a deeper emotional connection, like how I felt listening to my favourite albums when I was growing up. It was the details, transitions and cohesiveness that made me want to create a truly meaningful body of work.”
He continued, “It's been almost 10 years since my last album came out. I knew for my next one I needed to allocate enough time to properly focus and craft something exceptional that lives up to my standards. On Telos, I had the honor of working with some of my musical heroes, best friends, and favorite new artists. I can confidently say that I have made my best album yet.”- He said, "Telos has multiple meanings, one of them being 'accomplishment' or 'completion of human art'. 'The end' is another interpretation of it, and I relate to all of them. I grew up listening to these albums that shaped me as a musician, and I never thought I would be able to create anything as good as those, but as I was completing Telos, I really felt the same emotion I was given by those incredible albums when I grew up. I created something I didn't think I was capable of—it just took a long time."
He added, “What I've always dreamed of doing is creating an album that I genuinely believe 30 years from today, I will look back and be incredibly proud of, that will be just as amazing then as it is right this moment, because it's not based on trend. It's not based on sound design that might fall off after a while. It's based on music, and so are the albums that I still to this day adore that were released 20, 30, 40, and 50 years ago. [With Telos], I accomplished just that. It just took a bit of time to get there.” - He told Zane Lowe of Apple music, “I can make a good song, but 10 of them aren't going to make a good album. I grew up with these albums that were more than just 10 good songs. They still inspire me, and they made me the musician I am today. I wanted to create something that was meaningful. I wanted to make an album that in 30 years, I will meet a kid who's like, 'I heard this album and I wanted to get into music.'”
He shared on social media, THANK YOU SO MUCH for gifting me your patience and giving me the time I needed to feel creatively inspired to craft what I consider the best album I've ever made. TELOS is from the heart. It is my autobiography. It has every bit of my life in it, from early inspirations to my new favorite artists. I've gotten to work with my musical heroes and biggest inspirations, humans I adore, writers I love writing with and creatives who inspire me and push me to think more creatively. It's been nearly a decade since my last album. It's hard for me to even grasp that. But most importantly: I owe it all to you.”
Zedd explained about some tracks for the album.
“Out of Time” with Bea Miller
Zedd: “I started writing 'Out Of Time' back in 2015, making it the longest time I've ever worked on a song. It was and still is one of my favorite compositions I've ever created. I made an intro for my live show based on this chord progression, but was never able to finish it. Bea was the missing piece of the puzzle; her voice added an emotional depth that completed the song. 'Out Of Time' really encapsulates the DNA of the Telos album, which is why I chose it to be the song that introduces this new era.”
Bea Miller: “I have been a fan of Zedd's music for so many years, it's truly such an honor to have worked with him on this song. I think it's so special and I'm still pinching myself that I've had the privilege of being a part of this project.”
“Lucky” with Remi Wolf
“Lucky” couldn't have happened without Remi. Five years ago, she wrote the first verse and chorus, but had no intention of staying on it. Earlier this year, I invited Remi to the studio to play her the Telos Album which changed her mind and she decided to stay on the song. We got to work on the second verse and it completely brought the song to life — no one else could sing it as amazing as she does.
“Dream Brother” with Jeff Buckley
“Dream Brother” was the one song that to me was giving me that emotion that I wanted. [Buckley's] 'Dream Brother' has always been inspirational to me. I've always thought that there's a side of it that could live in a different context. I just thought I could make this into an incredible respectful dance-ish song.” - source : Apple Music
