  • Orla Gartland Premieres New Song “Late To The Party” featuring Declan McKenna on BBC Radio 1

  • Irish singer-songwriter Orla Gartland premiered a new song “Late To The Party” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.

The song is the fourth single off of her upcoming sophomore album “Everybody Needs a Hero”, which is set to be released on October 4, 2024.
This time, she teamed up with British singer-songwriter Declan McKenna on the track.
This marks the first collaboration between Orla Gartland and Declan McKenna.
The track was written by Declan McKenna and Orla Gartland. Produced by Orla Gartland, Tom Stafford, and Peter Miles.
The accompanying music video was directed by Clump Collective.

“'Late To The Party' is a big old bratty song about resenting the baggage that you inherit when you love someone and yearning for a time when we were all a blank slate,” Orla Gartland said of the song. “I wanted a song on the record that shifted in pace a lot, something fun and loud, something indulgent. I first wrote 'Late To The Party' over a couple of solo sittings in my studio, mumbling out the lyrics while playing drums.”
  • She continued, “A few months later I sent the song to Declan - for me he is one of the absolute greats, a properly timeless artist & writer. We worked on the song remotely at first, sending stems back & forth and then jumped in the studio for a day to dismantle the song & put it all back together. Dec's parts & energy added so much to the track for me and after months of revisiting it 'Late To The Party' was suddenly complete.”

  • Orla Gartland told about collaboration with Declan McKenna, “I just have always wanted to do music with Declan, simple as I supported Declan when I was much younger. And I just think he's the absolute real deal. I just think he's like the truest artist, so all encompassing, everything from his guitar playing to his production to his lyrics. So proper dream come true.”

She continued, “He goes into a mode, especially when he's playing guitar, where it's just this insane kind of hyper focus. And found it so inspiring to see. And he really wanted to have an influence of the song, also respecting what was still there about it. I think that's like a real lovely type of collaboration. He wanted to have a presence, but also not just be everywhere on it. I just think where we landed was so nice. I felt he was really complimentary of what was already done, and just wanted to enhance it.”
