  • Amyl and The Sniffers Announces New Album “Cartoon Darkness”, Premieres New Song “Chewing Gum” on BBC Radio 1

  • Australian punk rock band Amyl and The Sniffers, consisting of Amy Taylor (vocals), Bryce Wilson (drums), Declan Martens (guitar) and Gus Romer (bass), has announced their third studio album “Cartoon Darkness” will be released on October 25, 2024 via B2B Records / Virgin Music Group.

The album is their first LP in three years since the 2021 album “Comfort to Me” and comprises a 13-track, produced by Nick Launay.

The band lead singer Amy Taylor said of the album, “Cartoon Darkness is about climate crisis, war, A.I., tiptoeing on the eggshells of politics, and people feeling like they're helping by having a voice online when we're all just feeding the data beast of Big Tech, our modern-day god.”

She continued, “It's about the fact that our generation is spoon-fed information. We look like adults, but we're children forever cocooned in a shell. We're all passively gulping up distractions that don't even cause pleasure, sensation or joy, they just cause numbness.”

She added, “Cartoon Darkness is driving headfirst into the unknown, into this looming sketch of the future that feels terrible but doesn't even exist yet. A childlike darkness. I don't want to meet the devil half-way and mourn what we have right now. The future is cartoon, the prescription is dark, but it's novelty. It's just a joke. It's fun.”
  • From the album, the band premiered a new song “Chewing Gum” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
The song is the third single off of the album, following “U Should Not Be Doing That” and “Facts”.
It was written by Amy Taylor and Declan Mehrtens, and produced by Nick Launay.
The accompanying music video was directed by John Angus Stewart.

Amy Taylor told Jack Saunders about the song, “This one for me, is kind of a song about just the frustrations of life. And I feel like a lot of people, who pretty much still feel like there's all this work and there's all this hardness and there's all this difficulty and suffocation, and it's about choosing to be stupid and choosing to be young and choosing love, instead of the frustration of being alive.”

  • She said about the album title, “Cartoon darkness is a lyric from one of the songs on the album, and it kind of gets me a gutter is cartoon. And like to me, that is like a sketch. And it's not necessarily bad, but it is dark. Like to me, we already live in dystopia, and we're driving head first into dystopia, and it feels like it's a cartoon. It's a sketch. If you could, you can almost laugh at it. Because it's so unknown, but it's just a sketch. So it's not definitive. It's not like there's no hope. It just feels like there's no hope. Really looking forwards this.”
