Will Young Releases New Album “Light It Up”
British singer-songwriter Will Young released his ninth studio album “Light It Up” on August 9, 2024.
The album is his first body of work in five years since the 20`9 album “Lexicon”.
Also, it is the first release under his new label BMG Rights Management.
The album comprises a 10-track (deluxe edition 19 songs, including 9 bonus acoustic covers), produced by PhD, Jim Eliot, Andy Cato, and Theo Coecup.
The album returns to his pop roots, blending bright pop with softer moments of vulnerability and heartache.
Will Young said of the album, “I think for me it was about finally feeling more content and being able to go back to embracing joyous unashamed pop music. I really hope this is the go-to pop album for a dance, for a cry and for a celebration. I know I do all three with it.”
He added, “These last few months have been an incredible journey. Honestly, I’m so grateful for your continued support in everything I do. it includes some of my favourite tracks I’ve ever recorded!”- Will Young explained about some tracks for the album.
“Falling Deep”
“I’m remembering my roots of pop and completely welcoming it. The song immediately made my mind go to the late 70s and early 80s. I wanted the fun and nostalgia of that time but to modernise it, and I’m so proud of the result.”
“Light It Up”
“Light It Up is the most positive upbeat and fun song I've ever done. I can't wait for people to be joyously uplifted by it and let all their worries float away. I hope you love the song and video.”
“Midnight”
“Midnight” was the last song written for the album and it happened quite unexpectedly. The song draws inspiration from being single in your 40s and how you can still not have your shit together! It is deliberately humorous, truthful and open – all set to a fantastic groove.
The video, that I directed in Mexico, is playing on the theme of being single and perhaps ‘othered’ by society. I wanted to be almost a glamorous alien alone in a disco.” -
