Chase & Status Premieres New Song “Backbone” featuring Stormzy on BBC Radio 1
London-based drum and bass duo Chase & Status premiered a new song “Backbone” on BBC Radio 1's New Music Show with Jack Saunders.
This time, the duo teamed up with British rapper Stormzy on the track.
This marks the first collaboration between Chase & Status and Stormzy.
The duo first performed the song at Coachella 2024 back in April.
The track was written by Michael Ebenezer Kwadjo Omari Owuo Jr., Saul Milton, and William Kennard. Produced by Chase & Status.
“We are so gassed to work with the legend that is Stormzy,” Chase & Status said of the song in a statement. “We’ve always wanted to bring his energy into our world and are so excited for the fans to hear this collaboration.”- The duo told Jack Saunders about working with Stormzy, “I guess if you've ever thought in the last 10 years or so how Stormzy is gonna sound, drum and bass. This is it. This is the first time he's spout drum and bass in his career. We think that's quite a monumental moment. And obviously we've come together, do something quite different for him. It's very different for him. And we've been very, very pleased to see the reaction on the floor.”

They continued, “We've been fans of Stormzy since he first came on the scene many many moons ago like everyone else in the whole world. We just think he's kind of epitomizes British energy really like in music. He was in a good place to try some different stuff and we connected and we said in the studio, like, what do you think? And then he just said, 'Listen, guys, I just want to write I just want to do something. The first time I play it out, no one needs to know the words. No one needs to know the song, but it will just go off.' And we said, 'oh, well, luckily, that's the sort of thing we're good at.' So we were on the same place.” - source : BBC Radio 1
